I forgot to take a picture!

Nowadays MyLot has pretty much got me into the habit of photographing anything and everything I think I might write a post about. But I forgot to take one of our set-up at the weekend, much to my own annoyance!
Big One and I were away over the weekend at a music event, and since she is part of a group we were camping with 15 or 20 other families. Our tent is a sort of tunnel shape with a little overhang at the front to make a sort of mini porch.
I had grown some leaf lettuce in a hanging basket (to keep them away from slugs) but they needed watering at least once a day and on Friday the weather was so hot and dry I knew that if I left them over the weekend they would be toast by the time I got back. We would be better off just eating them, so since we had a bit of space in the car I brought the whole thing with me. After all the girls refuse to eat any kind of salad so I thought I would share it about!
Then on Saturday morning the place we were visiting had a big market with several appealing plant stalls, and I bought a couple of deep red geraniums (actually pelargoniums) to put by my front door at home. I didn’t want to leave them in the car though so I put them outside the tent – they were useful to mark the pegs holding the guy ropes at the front so we didn’t keep tripping over them.
The funny thing was that the end result looked as though I had deliberately brought my own little miniature garden with me! People were complimenting me on it and saying they couldn’t believe how organised I was
It has made me think though that I might do it again if conditions are right. I have sown another basket of lettuce and they are sprouting already.
What's the strangest thing you have taken camping with you?

Here's some advice for next time you go away: Put your potted plants in the tub with at least an inch of water in it. Pull the curtain shut to keep the air moist, too.

I had never gone camping, so I haven't experienced that. However, I once "camped" at our small hut in the "kaingin" (small clearing in the mountains where rice is planted) and my grandparents asked me to gather some mushrooms. I informed them that I didn't know where the mushrooms were, did we have a garden of mushrooms? They laughed at me and said that mushrooms were all over the kaingin, I just have to choose tree stumps and the mushrooms would be there, and that's what I did. I gathered enough for our side dish that morning.

We don't camp; but when we travel I take everything but the kitchen sink. We always end up using it all though. I'm glad you had a nice camping trip. Is the picture of the pelagonium? It's lovely.
