What is the ideal number of kids? Why?

What do you think is the ideal number of kids? For me, it would be three; one girl and two boys. This is because one kid would make him lonely, and two would be too few. On the other hand, 3 kids would be good because when one leaves the two can provide company for each other. What about you? What do you think? What are your thoughts on this?

For us it was zero. If I would have had children, I think two would have been enough.

Well, my dad is the 15th of 16 kids, and they all get along perfectly. They’ve all also gone on to make wonderful contributions to the world: 3 teachers, 2 professors, 2 pastors, a police officer, a lifelong member of the Navy, and so on…But 16 is too many!!! At least for me. I’d go with two, a girl and a boy, but I could easily advocate for three. I am one of two sisters, and I always wanted a brother because my sister was never crazy about me.

@Jenaisle I note that they were a good addition to the world because my mom was one of two children, just two. And her brother was a truly awful person. How odd that in the midst of 16 all would be keepers, yet with two, one was absolutely rotten.

Wow, 16 kids. Awesome, and they all grew to be good members of society. I salute the parents. Two is also a good number for many.

From what I understand, you're wishing for two kids? Please correct me if I am wrong.

For a very long time we are 3 kids in the family but then my youngest sister was born so we are 4 now. We are a lot happier now that we are 4, 3 girls and 1 boy

@Jenaisle We worked and traveled together all the time. We agreed before getting married, as this should be, because it's an important decision.

I had wanted 5 kids but I'd been given only 2 girls and I think they're enough. They're the best of friends. :o)

I agree! 3 kids would be enough. Here in our house, we're 7 siblings and it's chaotic. Me as the eldest, it brings me a lot of problems and stress dealing with them. I would also prefer having huge age gaps. Kids with 1 or 2 years old difference is a challenge, especially for giving enough attention. Jealousy and lack of parental support might get them lost.

Yes, spacing kids is important because sibling rivalry sometimes occur between kids of almost the same ages.

@Jenaisle That's right, especially when not handled properly. Rivalry may help them grow but can lead otherwise with lack of support.

Ideals vary between people. For me, I would prefer two girls and one boy, but that is not up to me. When (and if) I get married, I shall welcome whoever arrives, and be grateful and supportive of who they are. That is what is most important, not numbers and genders.
