How often do you get a vehicle?

Notice I didn't say car, because not everyone has a car, but most have a vehicle of some sort even if it is a bike. I get a car about every 3 or 4 years. I plan to do so in August. That is the hope. Even though this vehicle has a lot of driveability left, I am tired of it, it is too old, and has some other annoyances. Plus last year I had to pay a fortune to get it inspected. I am not going through that again! Better to spend that money on a new vehicle. Are you get another one every year, or do you wait a while to get vehicles?

I normally buy used and get a different vehicle about every six to eight years. When I get tired of paying for repairs, it's time to start looking for a different one.

Yeah, or inspections. Not sure if your state has that...but they can be very expensive at least here, they are strict.

@DaddyEvil That is the sticker price, but I don't know about you...you don't drive that much. I always have repairs to make..

My vehicles, which are always used, of course, get replaced about every six years. I may have had this one longer though because although it’s a 2002 Honda CRV, which is old, it only has 45,000 miles on it. And I bought it in 2016, I think.

@snowy22315 I hope it lasts forever. It’s in excellent shape.
Saturn Ions are really pretty. What is your current vehicle?
Our state got rid of inspections about 12 years ago, I think? That’s the inspection you are talking about, right? It was about time as people end up paying for something that isn’t usually needed.

@AmbiePam It will never happen here, this state is too greedy. I have an older Camry. Runs very well, but things wear out on it.

@snowy22315 Nah, neither Mike or I like being in debt and we don't like car shopping.

We usually keep a vehicle about 5-6 years. Then, Jay sells it and we look for another used vehicle. At this time, we both have a vehicle. We might go down to one, if things get real tight.

@kobesbuddy I hate being stuck at home with no escape. However, it might not bother some.

@snowy22315 At this time, Jay really needs his truck. He refuses to leave me at home by myself, without transportation.

I’ll get another one when I need a new one. This one is quite well for me, great gas mileage and very reliable (it’s a Honda).

I have a reliable auto rickshaw driver who attends me whenever I have to go out and do have any plan to buy a car.

@snowy22315 I get all my work done within 3 to 5kms of my house. So the auto rickshaw is sufficient.

I will probably have to keep this one for 3-4 more years. It is a 2018. I'd like to buy sooner, but with the current inflation and political climate, I'll have to wait for prices to come down. Hopefully after 2024 they will.

My vehicle is my feet within a 5 km radius. Beyond that I trade it for a city bus. My main vehicle has been with me my whole life. I wouldn't trade her in for a younger model although she gets a tuneup every 2 yrs.

I drove my last vehicle until it was on it's deathbed. It was starting to cost more than it was worth putting in to it. When I was married, my ex was constantly buying new cars. Not me! My car is a 2020. It hopefully will last me for a long, long time.

@MarieCoyle Some of those engines will run well past the 300 mark. I was reading an interview with a mechanic he said he has had vehicles with 5 or 6 hundred thousand miles on them.

That's a lot of miles. I think mine was at 170K. It still ran, had some quirks and I could actually hear the transmission clunking. I was afraid it would completely croak on the interstate somewhere or just suddenly give up the ghost. It was time.

We do not have the annual inspections as you do in your country.
We usually buy a slightly used vehicle whenever we need to.
We take good care of them and they usually last about 6-10 years.
Alot of it depends on the vehicle, and if it was a dud or not.

Yes, some cars are lemons. I have had a couple of those over the years. Not all states here have inspections. In a way they are good, as they keep unsafe vehicles off the road.

I sold my last car for scrap metal in Latvia and I am glad I no longer have the expense of a car. I have also become too nervous to drive,
