Dirty wood floor?

A friend of mine invited me to hang out at her apartment. This was not the first time I came to her house. I know that I have to wear my shoes all the time while I'm in her apartment.
Last time I walked around her apartment with my bare feet again, and then my feet were black again.
I don't know what happened with her wood floor.
I think she never cleaned her wood floor. Or... I don't know
She didn't say anything when she saw me keeping my shoes on while in her apartment. And I didn't ask her if she ever cleaned her wood floor or not.
What do you think about my actions?

Maybe the varnish on the wood floor was cheap, or done improperly and is now wearing off? I think if you wanted to keep your shoes on, then that was perfectly fine. Or, perhaps she only sweeps her floor, and never actually "mops" it. It might very well be because she does not keep it clean like you said.

@Shasha_ That sounds like varnish, although it also sounds like a cleaner I used twice for wood. Once should have been enough! The cleaner itself was really dark, but if you didn’t really put some effort into it, the liquid wouldn’t absorb, and if you touched it later, it would stain your skin dark. With you saying oily and sticky, I’m guessing it isn’t traditional dirt and grime on the bottom of your feet or on the wood floor.

I don't know. Usually we will see whether there are more slippers at the door. If so, usually we have to put off shoes to enter inside. Or I will ask the house owner whether I should take off my shoes. Especially she is your friend, it is fine to ask her and there is nothing to feel embarrassing.

If she doesn't mind you wearing your shoes in her apartment then by all means do. If she objects tell her why.

Could be they are always busy with work or are lazy to clean or some other reason. You did well to keep your shoes on

@Shasha_ maybe they are lazy and don't like to clean the house. They should buy vacuum cleaner or hire someone to clean

@Butterfingers Yeah, she should have been hiring someone to take care of her wood floor since she's busy ... or doesn't know how to clean it, ..or just being lazy.

In my country, nobody takes off their shoes indoors.

Unless it is water proof a wooden floor will not take mopping well I think

As long as your friend allowed you to wear your shoes, I don't see anything wrong with it.
Obviously she hasn't cleaned her floor. I wouldn't go barefoot on a dirty floor.

We don't usually find wood floors in India except some cold places like Khasmir or Darjeeling. How do you clean wood floors?

@Shasha_ I see. We have floors laid with glaze tiles in India or marbles. I or the maid mops the floor everyday.

@aninditasen Tiles or marbles are easier to clean, I think.
