Winter clothes - in JULY?

I had to run out and get some duct tape for my roommate to tape her car window closed again. While I was walking through Family Dollar, which is both my nearest dollar store and the only one I don't have to cross a major street to get to, there they were. Long sleeved shirts. This is Texas! I don't expect a real cool off until October, and not the beginning of October. And that is if we are lucky! Now, I know I've seen people in long sleeves and I will wear long pants if I'm going to a restaurant, but these weren't those kinds of things. These were winter clothes. Now, I'll admit I don't often go into stores, this is probably about the first one I've gone into since May. But it just seems crazy to me. What do you think... and if you are down in the southern parts of the world, are you seeing summer clothes?

Probably inventory that needs to go. Some people like to stock up on winter clothes months in advance, especially when it's marked down because it's out of season.

I don't know if they are considering this out of season. I didn't ask, I just noted it.

Stores like to capitalize on trends. They'll sell winter clothes in the summer because there are people who don't want to wait until the last minute to buy those things. They could be going skiing or something they might want to get ahead, so yeah I see it, too. Bare in mind schools start in august in some places, so back to school sales (including winter clothes) will be front and center.

I mean, there's last minute and then there's "WTF it's 105 outside!"

@ElicBxn Yeah, I know what you mean. Stores know that winter clothes sell best in summer, and visa versa.

I have not seen winter clothes put out for sale in Oklahoma, no way. It surprises me Texas would, like you said.

Check into your friendly, neighborhood Family Dollar... oh, and lots of fall decor too

@ElicBxn I don't know where my local Family Dollar is, now that I think about it. We seem to have a Dollar General on each corner.

@AmbiePam there is a Dollar General across the major street. I have gone there, but less than not crossing the major street and needing a traffic light.

Well, some places are over airconditioned... But most stores have been a season or two ahead in their stock for years and it's almost impossible to buy a swim suit in summer because of this.

I agree about the season ahead stuff, but if I'm going some place that is over air conditioned, I just put on jeans and a tee shirt instead of shorts and a tank top.
