I am thinking of going electric

After using gas stoves all of my adult life l am thinking of switching to electric after this latest cancer causing suspect.
It has been found that levels of benzene emissions from gas stoves can cause certain cancers. I was surprised when l heard about hair straighteners now l am even more surprised about the stoves l have been cooking on and baking in for years. What next?
Do you use gas or electric? Would you switch?

I have it easy. No gas or electric stove, I have a toaster oven. Personally, I think a lot of things are exaggerated but if you like try electricity, Just first see what will be more expensive the gas or the electric,

I don't listen to those things. Everything around us these days can cause cancer. They said the same thing about cellphones before but that didn't stop me from using one. They said the same thing about microwave ovens and all other appliances.
But electricity is more convenient.

@Kandae11 Then I think it's ok to stick with gas if using electricity is going to add more cost.

People are always finding things that cause this or that, and it really doesn’t add up to much overall in the long run. My apartment complex has an electric stove, and I’m fine with that. My parents though, always lived in homes with gas stoves. Cooking is a bit easier, and somewhat more efficient with a gas stove. I really don’t have a preference, but I do think “experts” are trying to put a little fear in people to get rid of gas stoves in the name of the environment.
Considering though all of the things that can cause us harm, I do understand your concern, and it is valid.

@Kandae11 It’s probably better to stick with what you have for now. I will say one thing about a gas stove. My dad’s wife cannot smell. I walked up to their front porch one day, and immediately started coughing at the overwhelming smell of gas. Long story short, my dad’s wife hadn’t turned the gas stove all of the way off, and she couldn’t smell, she had no idea what she’d done. It took two hours to air the house out. She’s done it twice in eight years, but none of the rest of us, including my late mom, ever did it.
If my dad’s wife had caused a spark those two times it could have been a disaster. I think that’s very rare because the majority of the world would smell the problem, but still, it did happen.

@Kandae11 I cooked for two years on an electric stove, what a horrible experience!
My great grandmother cooked on gas stove and my grandmother also did as well as my mother. They all reached a very old age (Mom was the youngest to die at 97) none of them had cancer. Aerate your kitchen and you will be fine.

The apparent reason why my daughters are mad at me after the kitchen fire was that they wanted me to switch to an electric stove. They had read about cancer and the like. They have not been talking to me, almost, for 2 months. All that is more dangerous for health than gas, I can assure you. I did not listen when they said that butter and eggs were bad for your health. Now they say it isn´t. You do what you want.

@Kandae11 Happiness is the healthiest thing to eat. Stay happy and benzene won´t bother you.

I have a gas stove and probably won't switch. Gas if more affordable and electric is higher here, I understand your concern and if you can afford the higher bills switching to an electric stove then I think you should. Peace of mind is something to consider

At this rental house, we are using an electric stove. We don't like it at all! Gas is our favorite stove, to cook with.

@Kandae11 Yes, you and I will live to be a healthy, ripe old age using a gas stove. Electric stoves are twice as expensive!

I use a gas as using electricity to cook would increase my electricity bill and there's power distruption every now and then in my city.

@Kandae11 That's the reason I depend on cooking gas.

I have had both gas or electric type of stoves in different places that I lived. I am to the point now that I prefer electric, which is odd for me as I used to prefer the gas stoves. I do not, however, care for the flat-top electric stoves. I prefer electric burners. Where I live now, it is all electric and I have gotten used to that.

I also feel it's easier to clean, but then that is just my opinion.

I still use gas stove nowadays, even if I want to switch to electric stove don't have any significant change either it is with health or finance.
if the gas you used has benzene emissions that cause of suspected cancer, I think you should immediately change into electric stove.
I hope you will find a good solution for your health and also your cooking activity going better.

When we moved, hubby wanted gas because "the best chefs" use them. I would change back in a heartbeat. It takes a while to learn to cook on electric but it is much cleaner and better for your lungs. I want a stove with the glass cooktop as it will be much easier to clean.

@Kandae11 My stove has the knobs in front, like the one in your picture. I have, on occasion brushed up against them and turned them on, causing a leak. I almost have him convinced we should change.

I grew up on gas stoves and had them everywhere we've been including our house now. Hubby's family had electric and I just could never cook the way I wanted to there (I guess I just wasn't used to it). Right now I wouldn't switch . . . but apparently they may make everyone switch eventually.

We've used electric stoves since we moved away from the farm when I was 19 or so. Mom sold the farm right after I moved and bought an electric stove for herself, too.
