Scented or Unscented

I was thinking about all of the things that have added scents like fabric softener or cleaning products. I just bought new cleaning wipes with a citrus smell I love, but an organic cleaner I just bought had a scent that gave me a headache. Some people like unscented everything because of allergies, and it all seems to vary. What are your preferences?

I don’t use fabric softener. I try to get lightly scented or unscented.

I use white vinegar instead of fabric softener.

@GardenGerty Do you mean the ordinary white vinegar?

I like the scented version of fabric softener since I do not have any allergies.

I think lavender fabric softener might be my favorite.

I prefer unscented everything, if possible. I actually have a terrible sense of smell, but strong smells somehow get to me and I get those headaches too.

It depend on the product. Some have a nice scent that don't cause a problem for either one of us but others can make one or the other of us sick... physically ill or cause a headache.

That organic cleaner I mentioned gave me an instant migraine that lasted five days. I absolutely hate when smells have the power to make us physically ill.

@AmbiePam Some laundry detergents make me sick if I smell them. Tide is what my mom used and I always had allergic reactions but we didn't know it was to the laundry detergent. When Arm & Hammer first came out with laundry detergent, I bought it and have had no problems since I started using it.

@DaddyEvil We had always used Tide, and then I thought I’d try a brand more environmentally friendly. Hello allergic reaction! I’ll keep Arm & Hammer in mind.

Definitely unscented. I even have a pet theory that some scents and perfumes provoke unwanted behaviors in kids. Much worse than sugar ever does. I do like essential oils, though. So I guess I am contradictory. My kiddo likes lavender oil on his neckerchief or shirt cover. Especially if he has a cold he will hold it up to his nose. His parents do not do OTC stuff when he has a stuffy cold, so I guess this brings him relief. On the other hand, I believe that chemical based scents can cause headaches.

That’s a theory worth exploring, isn’t it. It makes perfect sense.

It depends on what it is but I prefer unscented...however, I do like some cleaners with citrus or rose scents. I don't have allergies so I like them more.

I used to like vanilla. Until my well meaning grandfather overused a vanilla spray to try to over power the smell of an unfortunate stomach upset. Vanilla was forevermore ruined.

Thankfully I don't have allergies. I prefer things with scents. (Does that make scents? )

I stopped using liquid fabric softener because of the scent and there were some warnings about it being a potential fire hazard. I did like the wrinkle free liquid softener, but they were pulled from the market here as they were banned a few years ago. Others are still sold, but not the downey infusion ones. I prefer scent free for most things.

I would really like to understand how Canada pulls so many things the U.S. doesn’t. I mean if Canada feels that strongly, I think we should too.

@AmbiePam I agree, but we have less of a population so things fly easily and we don't protest for the most part.

@ambiepam I like soap that smells of raspberries and vanilla candles. I have no allergies except for rice pudding and pain.

I use an anti bacterial cloth rinse that helps keep away allergies. It has the light pine scent which I like.

@AmbiePam How smart it is I don't know but it protects us from fungus that infects clothes in the rainy season.

If I like the scent, I use it but it should not be strong.

I cannot be doing anything with scents..my skin breaks out like crazy, my allergies act up. Sometimes I like some of the fragrances but can't have them.

I like things that are lightly scented. Awhile back I tried laundry detergent that was unscented and my clothes didn't smell fresh and clean so I went back to the stuff we were using. Flowery scents seem to give me a headache more than other scents. I love scented candles and soaps
