Do You Wear Fragrance?

When I was in my late teens and early twenties I wore My Sin and Arpege by Lanvin. I bought it in a lotion form so that the fragrance wouldn't be too strong. When I got into my 30s, all of a sudden I couldn't wear colognes or perfumes anymore. Something changed in my body chemistry that made any fragrance that I put on smell like cheap perfume and nothing like the original scent was made to be. Women: Do you wear cologne or perfume? Men: Do you wear aftershave or cologne? What's your favorite scent? A bit of trivia: Fragrances date back more than 4,000 years. Photo Credit: Pixabay

I started having allergic reactions to any kind of cologne or aftershave when I was in my mid-30s... so can't wear them anymore.

@LindaOHio One doctor told me that's when adult bodies start making the change from youth into middle age so the adjustments to our systems can start causing problems.

I don't. I'm allergic to them. Even my shampoos and soaps have to be unscented. The only scent I can tolerate are those from essential oils. Any synthetic scent is a no no for me.

@LindaOHio They use toxic ingredients. I don't use those kinds of detergents. I use one that uses natural ingredients only. No bleach.

My hubby wears Boss, and it smells great on him. I wear a number of different perfumes, but my favorite is just a light body spray from the Body Shoppe called Shae.

@LindaOHio I suggested to my hubs to give me a heads up before he needs to buy a bottle, the last bottle was over $100 and it was a small bottle. He needs to have me pick it up on seniors day to get the discount.

When I am in a store and have to pass through the perfume aisle or dept. I run lol. Can't stand the smells. I hate it when I am around people and they have something on and a lot of it, especially when it's hot and stuffy out.

I hear ya. Don't those elderly actresses with all that junk on their faces look ridiculous? Of course many of them get face lifts but then they end up looking like Cher and she's not that pretty anymore, I mean what woman that age is, right? I saw a shot of Julie Andrews a little while ago, she's 87 and it looks like this might be a current shot but to me she looks ridiculous with all that eye makeup on, it just accentuates her age.

The one I always loved is Chamade by Guerlain. When the price became prohibitive I switched to First by Van Cleef & Arpels. Right now I only use the Eau de Cologne (the 4711 Colnish Wasser Original). It is less aggressive.

I used to enjoy using a small amount of perfume until I got into my thirties and then things seem to change. I do not know if I developed an allergy, or if the perfume makers started to use different ingredients, but I started to get headaches and migraines every time I used perfumes. I also noticed that I would feel ill if I was around other people wearing any sort of strong fragrance. This has gone on for years and I thought it was me being weird. Then , the other day, I read an article in a national paper about a lady who was trying to get strong fragrances banned because they were affecting the health of people who were allergic to some of the ingredients in these products. So it was not just me, but it is a common thing to be allergic to these perfumes.
