Met My Future Mum-In-Law

Hi guys I have survived! I was really nervous for the past weeks as I was meeting Andrea's mum for the first time. She knows very little English and I know even littler Italian. Plus the cultural barrier. Google translate has helped me a lot for times when Andrea is working and I have to take her for breakfast. She has a very strict diet since she is diabetic. Overall it was not a disaster. We get along with some silence bits on between. As per Andrea she said she was very happy but felt like I did too much for her as she is not accustomed to too much kindness. I truly hope I have made a good impression on her. And hopefully I can visit them as well in Italy.

I'm glad you got to meet Andrea's mother and hope you enjoyed your time with her! (Everybody is worried when meeting their future in-laws, even when it isn't the first time. Don't worry so much next time and try to enjoy yourself.) I'm sure Andrea's mom enjoyed meeting and visiting with you.

I am glad too. I have always wanted to see who raised such a beautiful man. We did have some good moments. I loosened up a bit towards the end of the journey. 4 days is not enough to bond deeply but it is a start.

I really hope so too. It is quite difficult to get an appointment to the Italian embassy here in UK.

@LadyDuck Why is there no vacant spot? Is the Italian consulate understaffed?

@flapiz It is even difficult for us Italians to have an appointment at our Italian Consulate to renew our documents.

It is very important for me to have good relations with my partner's family. I am glad I pulled through. I was frankly under a lot of stress.

@AmbiePam It is a bit challenging with the different language and culture but I think nothing is impossible. I will wow my in laws with my Italian next time.

@aureliah She can be quite lovely. Sometimes a bit too overbearing but that's her personality I guess.

I am trying to keep the communication through whatsapp now that she is home. I am not sure if I impressed her yet. But if I get to learn basic Italian then maybe then she would be impressed

I'm glad it went off quite well. I'm sure it was very stressful but I guess it was for her too.

Yeah it must've been stressful for her too. Her son is far away from home and is engaged to a non Italian and is unlikely to go back to live in Italy. Anyhow I am happy to say, I think we are friends now.

Glad you could meet and connect, especially across the cultural barrier. Careful of some older ladies, they do not like to be (s)mothered. And sometimes silence can be very companionable.

Ahahah to be perfectly honest she is the one smothering her son but I know it is out of good intention. So I am actually desmothering him

I am glad. I struggled a bit. I find it hard to please her. As for Filipinos food is a way to bond but she does not eat much. But I do feel now we are friends as she is writing me on whatsapp keeping me updated of her flight.
