We grow our own turmeric. There is a process to get the powder done The fresh turmeric is washed brought to a boil and then chopped up into tiny bits, thoroughly dried in the sun and put on the blender to get the powder. We use the leaves for making a sweet snack. Rice is ground to a paste and applied on the leaves, then stuffed with a mixture of jaggery and coconut and steamed. This was done yesterday We do it atleast once a year.

Wow, that's interesting! This is the first time I've heard of turmeric leaves being used to make sweet snacks. The leaves are used as a wrapper, right? Does it affect the taste of the snack? And what does the snack look like?

I use powdered turmeric. I didn’t know if it came from a plant or what it was made from.

Turmeric grows under ground. They are rhizomes that are pulled out when they mature and a process is followed as mentioned in my post.

The turmeric plant has rhizomes that are removed when they mature and the process that I have explained in my post is followed to get the powder.

I wish I could do my own turmeric. I thought it is complicated to have the powdered turmeric.

You have to get the fresh rhizome that when planted will produce more rhizomes Those rhizomes would have to be once again separately planted to produce more. You have to product enough to get the powder.

I haven't seen one but I know it is a root crop right? I have tried it once but I seem to dislike the taste or I am just not used to the gingery taste of it.

Is turmeric like a orange ginger? I don't think I like the turmeric flavor for a snack

The flavour of turmeric leaves is different from the flavour of turmeric powder. It is not orange ginger.

wow, my hobby is planting plants and turmeric is one of the plants that I plant in my yard. Besides being a kitchen spice, turmeric can also be used as medicine and can even be a food coloring.
