Day 21
Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey. 10 I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the horse from Jerusalem; the battle bow will be cut off. He will speak peace to the nations; His dominion will be ‘from sea to sea, and from the river to the ends of the earth.’ 11 As for you also, because of the blood of your covenant, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit.
When was the last time you had something to shout about—something that brought you great joy? There are many things that make a person happy and give cause for celebration, but when was the last time you felt like rejoicing? What would it do for you?
God told His people to rejoice exceedingly, to shout because their King was coming to them. He wasn’t any king, but the King, their Messiah. He would bring them salvation and He would reign over the earth. When He did, He would set the captives free.
As Christians, you know this verse. You know its fulfillment when Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey and the people waved palm branches and proclaimed Him King. Yet for all their proclamation, they didn’t recognize Him as their Messiah because they were ready to crucify Him a short week later. They didn’t realize His crucifixion brought about their salvation. Nor did they realize His resurrection would set the captives free, captives to Satan, and eternal damnation.
Jesus proclaimed His purpose when He went into the synagogue, and they handed Him Isaiah’s scroll.
Luke 4:16 So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and stood up to read.
17 He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. When He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: 18 “The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19 to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”
You have something to rejoice in and shout about. Jesus set you free when He rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. He set you free when they nailed Him to a cross and He set you free when He rose from the dead three days later. You are free from Satan’s chains. He no longer holds you captive. Sing, shout, and rejoice because He brought you salvation.
Let’s pray: Father, when I forget to praise You, remind me that my salvation rode into Jerusalem on a colt the foal of a donkey. Remind me that He set captives free with His death, burial, and resurrection. Remind me that I belong to You, and I will sing, shout, and praise You for all You did for me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

We need genuine long-lasting joy, to rejoice sincerely, as what happened to Jesus proves. They praised him joyfully one week, then a short week later, shouted out louder for his crucifixion.
It is hard to believe how they could change so quickly like that, but it shows that they were not true followers by heart, but were changeable, and only fair-weather people, at best.

@just4him It was hard even for Jesus's disciples to accept what happened, and for a while, they hid themselves away. The coming of the Holy Spirit to them though, emblazoned them into living from it, and thereafter, they lived fearless, and loving lives, for God.

@innertalks Yes, they lived fearlessly because they knew firsthand what Jesus did for them. Have a blessed day.

@just4him Yes, if only we could live so fearlessly, always too.
Fearless love is the strongest type of love, as fear has been cast out of it.
