Could the 14th Amendment to the American Constitution prevent Donald Trump from running for President again?

I admit to not having read the entire Constitution, nor the Amendments thereto. I had not read this section of the 14th Amendment until this morning. Could these simple words prevent Donald Trump from running for President again? Would he have to be convicted on at least some of the counts against him? Donald Trump is not known as a big reader. Do you think he has read this? Have his lawyers told him about it? What are your thoughts? "Fourteenth Amendment. Equal Protection and Other Rights Section 3 Disqualification from Holding Office No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability."

I imagine it could be used if he is convicted in DC for the January 6 insurrection attempt.

I am hoping for a "speedy trial."

@TheHorse It appears that it will be. The judge already hit his team with a 5 pm deadline tomorrow to provide a response to Jack Smith's request for a protective order that was filed. . . Friday night.

@NJChicaa Jack Smith ain't no joke. Can you imagine being Trump's lawyer and trying to get a handle on all he has done?

If he is convicted in the January 6 insurrection I think this would prevent him to run for President... MAY BE.

@TheHorse He seems to escape justice all the time.

@LadyDuck Have you seen his recent speeches? He complains about being indicted and says nothing about what he would do if elected.

Boy, that's one really cornfuzing amendment. But being a woman it wouldn't pertain to me

The amendment was very clear that it pertained to male citizens which is why I said that.

I thought you were going all Feminazi on us. But the statement doesn't seem to mention gender!

@TheHorse He wants to drag them out for the publicity and thinking if he wins then the trials will be stopped

@wolfgirl569 He may see getting elected and pardoning himself as his only way out.

That's how I see it. Will Trump waive his right to a speedy trial?

@TheHorse He begins with a history of "contentious" federal elections throughout the history of America and the civil unrest it created or nearly created, including the most recent election and January 6. He brings in a couple of guests to discuss the indictments against Trump and the controversy surrounding them. I don't want to give too much away.

@Starmaiden He kind of lost me when he said the January 6th incident was not an insurrection. But the info abut the earlier elections was interesting. It sounds like we had too dang many people running in those days!

Technically, this should keep Trump from taking office and should cause the removal of a large number or Republican House Members and a handful of Senators as well. However, I don't see it ever being enforced. Note, though, that it doesn't say they must have been convicted, simply that they engaged. Trump undeniably engaged in the insurrection.

That (whether one has to be convicted) is something the legal eagles will have to debate, I suppose.

I certainly would hope so. No sense going through a presidential circus one more time he does not deserve to be president of a country or anything else,

It is time for him to relax and do time in a cushy prison. Maybe he can still hire a ghost-author to help him write his memoirs.

I have a paralegal degree. One year my professor had a class on the Constitution. I really wanted to take it, but the classes were really long and I couldn't take it.

They keep indicting him hoping he won’t run for president. But he only gains more popularity. He is not gonna back down and continue running for president.

That would shatter his plan to run for President once again. Trump is always making news and most of the time for wrong reasons. But still, we get to see a huge fan following for him

If it's 60 percent of Republicans, I am fine with that.
