Menu Anxiety Me: What!?!

I will be honest and say that I sometimes have panic attacks when eating out. For the reason that I am not sure how much it will cost if I order some menus in a restaurant. Before I ask someone out on a date, I usually check the menu online to prepare for the budget. If it happens unexpectedly, I will be in a panic. Did you know that 30% of adults in the USA have this kind of anxiety? I was trying to find more information about who conducted this survey, but to no avail. Have you ever had "menu anxiety"? Do you ever look up a restaurant's menu online before going? Image Credit: toonclips.com

There are usually prices on the menu. I have never experienced this kind of anxiety.

I am glad that you didn't. It is a good thing that we can have and check the prices of meals online.

If I cannot afford to go to a restaurant I stay at home. If I go out I enjoy the food and I have no anxiety at all.

I guess if I am going to have a date, I might try to cook at home and invite her. I also prefer to eat slow food.

@Shavkat - I do not like fast food and I surely prefer to cook at home, at least I know what I use and that everything I use is clean.

I sometimes do check menus online. I do not really want to go if the prices are not there.

Uhm, I guess I need to use my debit card then. Just in case for having no cash on hand, I need to use it.

I think it's worth to have the meals while having the dinner date.

I will always order for the dish that suits my palate as well as my budget . Even on dates, it is good to be honest with your financial capacity. One should not go overboard just to please.

You are right. It was a big lesson for me not to overboard. I do love trying new meals that serve as a reward for myself.

I have never experienced that, but I would definitely look the menu up if I were that worried about it, like you already do. I read about that poll. They didn’t ask that many people, but it certainly sounds unusual for a random poll result, doesn’t it.

I totally agree with you. It will be great to have those feedbacks from different people's perspectives.

This is why usually I will go to the restaurant that I am familiar with. If not, of course it is better to check its menu and the price in advance

It is understandable to go to restaurants that we are familiar with. I also agree that we need to know the given prices of these menus ahead of time.

In most cases, if I know what restaurant I'm going to, I pretty much know the kind of prices to expect. I guess I've never had anxiety about that . . . if I think it's way too pricey, I just won't go to that restaurant.

I would be in such a situation if being married, too. The mutual feelings will be done where to eat out.

I have no extra money to spend so I no longer go out to eat. I used to enjoy eating out but I know that nowadays everything is very expensive. I think you can probably find restaurants that have their menus online before you go out,

I can relate to you. Due to the aftermath of this pandemic, I need to trim down my budget. As much as possible, I will just have to think the practical side of eating out.

I think it is less hassle to find healthy food in a particular restaurant online. We can just have all the information needed and be on the go for eating out.

At times I do. I usually have money saved in my savings to treat family and friends and only spend on whatever is in there, nothing more than that. So I have to plan on who am I inviting, check the plate prices, and just hope I calculated the guests correctly

I also do the same thing. I need to have the checklist with prices. In this way, we will not be short when the time comes treating them.

Yes, I do look up restaurant menus because we use discount coupons and I want to know what options will fit the budget before I go. There are times I've ordered an appetizer as my meal because I knew there was plenty to eat in it and it matches the budget.

Your title caught my eye. I generally know which restaurants are going to be more expensive, so I don't have anxiety about the price. I have anxiety with all the choices on the menu. That's what I thought you meant by menu anxiety. I don't want to order something and be disappointed and feel my money was wasted. Good idea to look up menus online to know prices ahead.

I don’t even like to eat out. Most prices are way too high and my diet is limited. I can’t always find something I can eat.
