So, Who Do I Complain To?

Sorry to revert to stereotype but I'm going to talk about the weather. Due to Manchester's unique geographical location it experiences rather a lot of rainfall. This is perfect for cotton mills (bit of history there) and ducks (bit of environmentalism there) but not so great if you want to experience an actual summer (bit of meteorology there). To be fair we did have a couple of weeks of dry, sunny weather in June but since the beginning of July it has rained almost non-stop. I can count the number of rain-free days in the last six weeks on the fingers of my Uncle Sid's left hand and it should be noted that he was involved in a nasty incident with a circular saw leaving him with less than a full complement of sinister digits. Our only escape from the incessant gloom and damp was a week in Cyprus where we encountered a strange yellow ball in the sky every day. The locals referred to it as Ilios which I am reliably informed means 'sun'. Apparently this extended period of lousy weather in the UK is due to the jet stream being further south than normal for this time of year and steadfastly refusing to venture northwards. So! Who owns the jet stream and where can I find their email address. I feel an angry email coming on!!

Oh, shoot! And here I thought you'd be happy with some extra rain... I don't know how to retrieve packages already shipped through the mail, but you might want to ship that to somebody else when it gets to you. People in California keep sending their bad weather to me in Missouri and I'm tired of that! I've tried complaining here on myLot but it doesn't seem to work. *sigh*

That's the worst thing about bad weather, you feel like there should be someone to complain to but there isn't. Oh well, I suppose there's always next summer!!

@DaddyEvil I wonder if there's a place in between us where the weather has the perfect balance of sun and rain .

@WorDazza I actually don't mind the rain when it keeps the temps below 100F for a few days at a time. This has been the hottest Summer on record for my part of the US. We didn't need this much rain, though. My phone insists we got about 3 inches over the weekend but the next-door-neighbors have a rain gauge and he told us we got over 5 inches... I know the culvert at the end of our yard was completely full. It's 6 feet deep and 12 feet across. No wonder we still had a flood warning until 4 pm today.

A rare reasonably warm day in Preston today - I do miss living in Manchester but Preston is lovely

It's actually been quite nice in my corner of Manchester today too. Maybe my discussion embarrassed the weather into behaving itself.

@WorDazza Suspect it will revert to its wicked ways before long though

@arthurchappell Indeed! Although I have seen conflicting forecasts ranging from unsettled (i.e. rain) to quite bright and sunny. I think I know what we'll be getting.

You might try emailing Mother Nature . . . but I don't think she's listening to anybody. We are all too familiar with that yellow ball in the sky, but that strange wet stuff that falls from the sky has been lacking. Maybe we can trade for a while!

@WorDazza Note to ask Mother Nature the exchange rate too .

I would gladly trade if I could. I wonder what the exchange rate is for sun/rain!!

If you can find the email of the one who owns the jet stream, please let me know, because I also have to send a very angry email. We are in the middle of a horrible heatwave right now.

@WorDazza I am also monitoring the temperature here and I am scared by what we are going to get the next few days. At least it's not too bad in the morning.

I think we all need the jet stream to stop being stubborn. Some of the news reports I've seen from Europe look pretty scary. We've just come back from Cyprus where it was a hot, but not unbearable 30 to 33C every day. I think Cyprus is a bit far East to get the worst of the Saharan hot air.

Hey, I am in the middle of an intolerably hot summer and the best I can do is sit in front of my fan and work on my PC. Outside the sun feels like it is blazing hot,

It seems most of the world is struggling with hot temperatures except Northern Europe. We've just returned from a week in Cyprus where it was about 90F which was nice when all we had to do was sit by the pool. Can't imagine having to work in that heat though.

And yet it seems half of Europe is experiencing higher than usual temperatures. Is there no longer any justice in the world, presuming there was some once!

Apparently it's warm Saharan air pushing up into Europe and being trapped by the stubborn jet stream which is preventing it moving into Northern Europe. Not sure nature is familiar with the concept of justice.

@WorDazza You're probably right about Mother Nature.

Cheers. The forecasters keep promising an improvement but it never happens. Although it has rained only once today for a few minutes so maybe we're getting there.

@WorDazza Somehow knowing the reason for inclement weather doesn’t lessen its power to depress. It was quite nice when I was in Chorlton-Com-Hardy in May. (Mylot insisted that I should change its middle name to Com from something else before I could submit my comment).
