??UPDATE??
From the original poster, who found the leg---
The leg owner has been found. Because so many people are invested in the story of how the leg ended up on the side of the road and why the owner wasn’t missing it I will share what I know.
The person the leg belonged to is deceased, but the leg was in his daughter’s possession as a sentimental piece. Someone took it from her home and apparently threw it out the window. I will be returning it to her at the end of the week.
So many things make sense now. ?? Mostly.
Thanks for all the shares helping to return the leg to its rightful owner. And to all those that have friended me that I don’t know, sorry for not adding you. I’m not that great, really, I just found a leg. I hope you understand. ????
I am glad it was found, it was stolen from the daughter of a deceased man.
What type of low-life person does this?
Someone in Marion, IL. found an artificial leg on the side of the road by route 166. A person just has to wonder, just how messed up someone can really be, to actually lose their artificial leg!
Maybe they were asleep in the back seat without the leg on, and someone threw it out of the car? Maybe they had way, way too much to drink, and just accidentally left it in the ditch?
Or maybe they decided that the Cardinals were just not their team anymore?
I do know that prosthetic limbs are all marked with a serial number, which is connected to the person it was made for. Maybe they will find the owner through the number.
The person who lost it, truly doesn't have but one leg to stand on!!

@MarieCoyle - May be it's only a joke, but it will be interesting to know.

I am interested as well, as I want to hear the real story how the leg came to rest in a ditch on the side of a little road, Anna!

I thought of that, like you said. Time will tell, I guess.

That is wacky. One day I was doing highway clean up..I was amazed at what ended up on the side of the road. One thing was someone's work portfolio with stops and all of that...I was thinking like what were they thinking? "Take this job and shove...it I ain't workin here no more." Like the song says....Toss! Hey, sorry you didn't like your job Toots, but we shouldn't have to clean up after you!

@MarieCoyle Unfortunately, I didn't find anything good. They should put up those no littering signs again with large fines attached and enforce it a few times. I bet they would help!

@MarieCoyle That's the same here, but I think if they posted a sign and enforced a large fine a few times..the word would get out

This little 2 lane highway was basically in the sticks between 2 towns(called cities, but they are dreaming). Not enough law enforcement to really do ''out in the country'' unless someone shoots someone or does something horrible.

I can see a wife getting angry at her husband, and throwing it out the window. Or, a bunch of guys playing a prank when their buddy gets a new prosthetic leg, and leaving it by the side of the road to freak people out. This is a good share, Marie!

Oh, I can see there is a good chance it's a joke, or someone got wasted or had a crazy moment and threw it out the window of a car. Those things are so, so expensive!
Thank you, I just thought it was a really interesting story. I've heard of strange roadside finds before, but this one rates #1, I think!

@MarieCoyle It has a male, sick joke written all over it, doesn’t it. Yes, it definitely rates as number one!

Hopefully, the person it belongs to gets it back.
When I first saw the article, someone commented that often people put strange things on graves as a sort of memorial thing? And that maybe that's where it came from. But the poster said it was very clean, not something that had been just sitting outside. But whatever happened, I'm sure there is a really, really good story behind it all!

I thought about that when I first saw this online. I mean...maybe they should look for a body? or some other clues, like a wallet or? But maybe I've been watching too much CSI, who knows?

Owner found, it belonged to her deceased father and was stolen from her home. Whoever took it was sick in the head!

As I have said before and no doubt will again, some people just don't even deserve to breathe air.

Well, maybe. But those things are so very expensive. And most people, when they do get a replacement limb replaced for some reason or other, donate the old prosthetic which is then re-made to fit someone else who might need it at some point.

There are unfortunately some nasty, hateful people out there. Shame on him, this was heartless.

That's crazy. My best friend's dad had just lost his leg from diabetes. I wonder if he will get a sport artificial leg.

Hopefully, there will be a story about it posted by a major news source, and the owner will be found. I just can't imagine how this happened, but then again, we see and hear about strange happenings every day.
