Day 41 Matthew 21:1 When they drew near Jerusalem, and came to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and you will find a donkey tied and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me. 3 If anyone says anything to you, you will say, ‘The Lord needs them,’ and he will send them.” 4 All this was done to fulfill that which was spoken by the prophet, saying: 5 “Tell the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your King is coming to you, lowly, and sitting on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey.’” 6 So the disciples did as Jesus commanded them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt, laid their clothes on them, and set Him on them. 8 A great multitude spread their clothes on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: “Hosanna to the Son of David! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!’ Hosanna in the highest!” 10 When He had come into Jerusalem, the city was moved, saying, “Who is this?” 11 The multitudes said, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.” How do you honor people who come to your city or village? Would you roll out the red carpet and offer them thoughtful attention? Do you announce the arrival on billboards, radio and television stations, social media sites, and wherever you go? Long before the person arrives, you know about their appearance. How do you receive the honored person? Do you give them a parade to let people know they arrived? Historically, heroes were given ticker tape parades and people applauded their heroism. Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey. When the people saw Him, they exclaimed over Him, shouting for all to hear that He was the Son of David, and blessed Him. Not everyone knew Him and asked about Him. They told them, He was Jesus, a prophet from Nazareth. As Christians, you are familiar with Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem a week before His crucifixion. How do you receive Him? Do you praise and bless His name because of who He is and what He did for you? Do you join the people and shout blessings to Him? Or do you stand on the sidelines with questions about Him? Many Christians don’t know the reason why they are Christians. If asked, they will tell you their parents had them baptized as infants, therefore, they are Christians. They know nothing about Jesus so when confronted with Him, they don’t know who He is. When asked, do you tell people who Jesus is and why He made a triumphant entry into Jerusalem? Does your enthusiasm for Jesus, impress people with His importance in your life? Do you exclaim with shouts of blessing so all will hear you? Or do you join in with shouts and exclamations of blessing not knowing who you are blessing? Many people go along with the crowd because they want to be part of the excitement, not understanding what it means to those who praise and bless Him. People will always ask about the person you honor and praise. You need to be ready with an answer for the faith that lies in you. Then those who question you will know and accept your answer and either join in your praise and blessing or turn away from it. The choice is theirs alone. Let’s pray: Father, let my praise and blessing show my enthusiasm for Your Son, Jesus. Let me answer those who question me about Your Son with testimonies about who He is and what He did for me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. Copyright © 23 August 2023 by Valerie Routhieaux The image belongs to me.

I remember this Biblical scene. We call it the triumphal entry of Jesus to Jerusalem. He was welcomed by people with leaves on their hands, shaking them.
