Here is just a sampling of the various colors of roses and what the colors mean. You can send a message to the recipient depending on the color/s you choose:
Lavender - "Love at first sight", fascination, adoration, enchantment
White - "I'm thinking of you", purity, innocence, rememberances, marriages, new beginnings
Green - Fertility, wishes for recovery of good health or a prosperous new life
Yellow - Friendship and care, rememberance
Pink - Sweetness, admiration, appreciation
Red - "I love you", passion and strong romantic love
Blue - Unattainable love, desire, uniqueness, mystery
Black - End of a relationship, farewell, death
Ivory - Letting someone know you care without any romantic involvement, class
Purple - Royalty, luxury, grandeur
Burgundy - Loyalty, unconscious beauty, affection, passion
Peach - Expressing gratitude, loyalty, purity
Multicolored (Rainbow) - Happiness and joy
The number of roses you send, sending long-stemmed roses or sending petite all have a special meaning.
I have a little story to tell: On my 21st birthday my boyfriend (now my husband), sent me a dozen red roses. His brother sent me a dozen carnations. His brother had a smaller budget. His brother always wanted to marry me; so this caused a little bit of friction at the time.
My favorite color of roses is white. I think they are so beautiful.
What is/are your favorite color/s? Have you ever sent or received roses? What was the occasion?

When I could still care for roses like they needed, I grew miniatures... I had red, pink, yellow and my favorite, green. (I stopped growing roses when I had skin cancer and didn't have the energy to care for them anymore...)

@DaddyEvil Under the snow . . . oh how beautiful and adorable that must've been ! I like the way they grow. We had a few of the big rose bushes here, but the owner before maintained them so oddly that they were crazy straggly - had to rip them out eventually.

@much2say Yup! I bought a lot of them. At our last house, I lined the front porch with them. They even bloomed under the snow...

That really must have put you in a tricky position for sure!
I saw a movie once that had a plot point about Sterling roses, and I fell in love with the look of those. They are lavender roses with silver undertones. I think those are my favorite color of roses.

Interesting. I like the peace rose. The petals are yellow on one side and pink on the other. I have received roses in the past. In facot one time the guy went to pull a wild rose off a branch and ended up bringing me the entire bush.

I didn't know they had roses in so many colors. Hard to beat a dark red rose. I hope the brother went on to be happily married to someone else.

@LindaOHio Roses are beautiful, I have pink, red and white in the garden. I want to plant a vine-rose at the entrance of the patio.

Mine have always been yellow roses. But of course, I enjoyed all the roses we had in our garden in Latvia there were red, pink, white, and even pink and white ones I called peppermint roses.

I knew what some of them meant, didn't know the number meant different things. White is a pretty color for roses. Of course, I like multi-colored/rainbow best! Or the dark red would be a close second, my great grandma had those in her garden

@LindaOHio they were always nice. Almost look black, but you can definitely see the red in the sun.
