Fans or air-conditioner?

We have everything around us to have a cool environment - a terrae garden with a lawn, 31 windows that provide cross ventilation and a few fans in each room.
We have never opted for air-conditioning as it kind of stifles the surroundings around with all windows and doors closed.
Some opt for central air - conditioning and some window air- conditioners
What is your choice

That's good for you. I am living in an apartment building and I don't have a garden like you. And the temperature is hotter in the city. So it is common for us to have air-conditioners. Of course I also have fans at home and sometimes I use the fan when the weather is not so hot.

That is understandable that you need both facilities as the situation demands

I mainly use fan. I only turn on the window air-conditioner when it's really hot.

We use fans only when they are needed and only in rooms that we occupy

Does the fan not provide you with the coolness that you desire?

I envy that.. That sounds like our native house. We have around 15 hall like rooms with ceiling so high and few windows in each for cross ventilation. We never felt the need of air conditioning there with such a huge campus full of greenery.
Bangalore as such has a pleasant weather. I have one air conditioner in our master bedroom but it's used for a week in peak summer here. My house has nice cross ventilation in each room

@allknowing Yes, it's a haveli kind. I have not been there since the pandemic. But my brother and mom keep visiting it a few times. And so do my uncles. One of them is planning to stay there and is getting few renovation work done in one corner. He retired last year.

The climate here is quite good. I only use air conditioning in July and August during the summer, and I don't need to use air conditioning at other times

@zhangxueying Even where I was working it was centrally airconditioned but adjusting to suit individual needs was not possible

@allknowing My home is a variable frequency air conditioner.Central air conditioning is generally used in larger places such as shopping malls or hospitals. We used to work in an office building, and our entire building had central air conditioning

I am lucky to live in an area where central air is commonplace. With the humidity in Florida having windows open isn't ideal. And, if you have a pet or two really not ideal. That being said, I prefer a combination of both.

Florida has no extremes as far as weather is concerned. Right?

@allknowing It does. It trends on the hot side with humidity causing the gap in the heat index. But, it can get below freezing in the winters, and we have a signigant wind chill factor. So, it can. It does and it has.

So far air-conditioning has never been a requirement in the UK, at least not in homes. Larger workplaces tend to have it, and it is usually set too high. After we moved to a new building at work, I never had the opportunity to wear any summer clothes for years as it was always way too cold!

@allknowing Yes, I agree with you. And it's good to open a few windows too. But not if it's too hot and there's no breeze, because then you'd just be letting the hot air in and that would be counter productive!

For us it is the question of staying indoors with our windows and doors wide open

The windows are not in good repair at my house. I really like fresh air. I am running the air conditioning--a window unit--in the office this evening. It is not really that hot though.I hope by next summer I will be better able to use the windows.

We have to have air conditioning in my apartment. I have one window in my bedroom, and one “patio” door (there is no patio) that opens. With temperatures constantly in the 100s during the summer, you’d get heat stroke if you didn’t have air conditioning. They didn’t put a ceiling fan in my apartment, but even if I had one, it wouldn’t be enough. I have a fan I plug in, but it can’t do enough to keep my place cool.
