Not so good Afternoon...

Got to my grandparents house this afternoon and my grandma said she might need to go to the ER because she felt really bad and had been really sick all day. She went by ambulance because she didn't even think she could make it to the car and walk into the ER. She's been there for three hours now or longer and she may have to stay the night, not sure... I think she just can't handle the stress of taking care of my grandpa on her own anymore....but she'd never be able to send him to a place he could get 24/7 care because he wants to be home. I'll update when I know more...

Bless your heart. I guess the biggest fear would be that they both end up there because she won’t put him in one. I’ll say a prayer for her.

She always threatened to put him there when he refused to eat or drink, if they both didn't end up there first. Worried about them both. Not sure who's worse.

That kind of stress is really hard. Are you taking care of grandpa while she is gone?

We're staying with my grandpa till my mom gets back from the hospital. My grandma is being admitted. Don't know how to handle the next few days...

@MarieCoyle I don't do much to help, I am almost useless to them. I get anxiety having to stay with my grandfather. And tonight he fell while just me and my son were there. I can't imagine how she deals with it 24/7.

@MommyOfEli2013 I'm sorry she is ill. It's stressful caring for someone when person is in good health, I am sure it's exhausting for her, even with you and your mother helping. That is good that you all help and support them. I hope she feels better soon.

Maybe your grandparents need to consider some help? Why haven't you considered home health? It's not just for those on end of life care. It's for anyone who needs it. I'm not sure how it works where you are, but here it's free-of-charge to patients and is government-funded.

They already tried that actually and say there's nothing they can do for them. A nurse comes from there to do his monthly infusion and check him out but that is it

No, my son and I are babysitting my grandpa. He has dementia and can't really be left alone. But she's going to be admitted.

You should check and see if your state offers help for the elderly or sick to stay in their own home. Some states offer that and some don't. You can ask at your local Medicare office.

@MommyOfEli2013 It doesn't have to be today and they wouldn't be able to do anything for a few weeks anyway. It takes time to set this up... if your state offers it.

Oh....I couldn't do that myself and too late in the day because everything would be closed!

@DaddyEvil well then that won't help us now...and hopefully won't need it in the future if it was offered here

Taking care of the elderly may take a toll on one so bad, we always need a helping hand no matter how much we love and want to attend to them. 4 years ago my dad who was taking care of my grandparents almost lost his mind. Your granny needs help. All shall be well

She hasn't been fine in the last 3 years...but sometimes it is really bad. If you want to you can, though I am not religious...

@MommyOfEli2013 I am not that religious, too. But I do pray in my own way.

That is so sad does their insurance cover anyone to help her for a couple hours each week.

Maybe they could get someone to come in for a few hours each day. That would give her a chance to rest

They tried that... nobody would be able to come and do that...

I’m so sorry. I hope it’s nothing serious but caring for a loved one can be terribly stressful.

@RubyHawk Not consistently. Tomorrow my mom doesn't work, but then she works the weekend. My uncle can come up the weekend but has to leave by Sunday afternoon. Not sure when she will get to come home...

She's much too old to have the stress of taking care of your grandfather. She needs to rest. I hope she's OK.

@MommyOfEli2013 I thought they were much older. I am 75 and my husband is 82.

@LindaOHio my great grandma I spoke of in the past was almost 100… but she passed away a couple years ago. So my grandparents are the ages I mentioned...I was surprised when I heard my grandma was 79..I always think of her being younger

She is 79 and he's almost 83. They both are tired I'm sure. She can't take care of him like he needs but she'd never have him go to a place that can help him 24/7
