It’s probably a good idea to read the FAQ’s, but otherwise just post a discussion (must be at least three lines) when you want to, add friends when you enjoy someone’s posts, and reply to the people who reply to you. There's no advantage to "following" people that I know of.

Write about what you know and what you are interested in. I usually talk about what's going on.in my day. For example, about 4 weeks ago our washing machine broke down and we needed a new one, so I've been updating everyone on the latest on trying to get a plumber to come and install the new one! Also, I keep people up to date with what I'm doing with my art.
