When something tastes bad, why do we instantly like to get another person to taste it also? You know you have done it..."Ewww, this tastes horrible! Here, taste this!" But silly us! We just heard the person say that it was gross...but yet we still taste it. LOL Why? Did we not believe them that it tasted bad? And why must we force something horrible tasting on someone else?
And the reason why I say force...is because I have learned NOT to taste something when someone says Ewwww. But yet the person will plead with me..."Please taste it...just a little taste." Why? So I can say ewww too? Must I feel your pain?
So, do you have the urge to shar when something taste bad but not when it takes good? If so, why do you ask someone else to taste what you clearly have found to be horrible?

Those are called courtesty smells. Because at some point, one man will find the one smell that will hold the record for a long time.
"Man! You remember that jock strap that smelled a few months ago?"
Second guy, "Do I! That smell was stuck in my nostrils for days!"
First guy, "Well you not going to believe this...this smells worse than that strap! Here, take a whiff!"
Second guy smells, but tops it off with the same jock stap that has been brewing in the locker the entire time.
So see, courtesty smell.
It is a competition. Why? I haven't a clue!

Share the pain! Right?
Not me! I refuse to share my partners pain. You want someone to try it after you made THAT face! Forget it! Pick a kid! That's why we have seven of them! LOL

You have the funnest discussions ever. x)
That's so true! I don't think I do that. I try not to, anyway.
It's funny though. My mom and I have such drastically different tastes that whenever she finds something to be bad tasting, I always know that I'll like it. Or when she says she likes something a lot, I end up never liking it. So if she says eww, I'd be the one saying "Here, lemme try it!"

I always ask because I want to know if its just me or if it is actually the food. Sometimes it is actually just me. So I want to make sure before I throw it out or tell the waiter or what have you.

I laughed so hard when I read this thread... I can see myself in this (especially I like my husband to feel as bad as I do)..Sometimesa though it is just to check that there is not something wrong with my taste buds. Well that's what I tell my husband anyway LOL I also do the "smell this milk do you think it is off?" Smelling bad milk is almost as bad as tasting something awful!!!!

Because sometimes it is hard to belive how bad can something taste. For Example once I went to a restaurant with some friens and we all ordered some food. One of us ordered The soup but when hetryed to eat it he said Ewww end he said it tasted horrible and couldn't eat it. Another friend couldn't belive it and sait that he will it the soup but he also maba a bad face and said Ewwww so he couldn't eat it. At this point I could't belive what was happening We were in a restaurant and none of us could eat theyr soup. So I said come on how bad can a soup taste. So I tryed it and it was horrible I nearly through up. It was like eating cow fat. So now I know how bad a soup can taste in a restaurant.

It's a human trait to want others to share in our joy, pain or what ever it may be . Maybe the urge to ask someone else to taste something that tastes bad to you comes from a hope that our tastes buds aren't broken.

For me, it is because I am frugal. I won't throw something out if I can use it. If I have a cold and my taste and sense of smell are off, I will ask my husband to check it out. Of course, if there is mold growing on it, that is a no brainer!

lol,I don't know why we do that. It's just a reflex action I guess.Perhaps we just want to make sure it really tastes bad,not just to us but to others as well.Or maybe we do just want to have someone else have that horrible taste in their mouth too lmao

We are always interested to see how another person feels about something that we think is bad. They may disagree with us and like it. Just because we or they do not like it, does not mean we will not like it. I hate the taste of liver but apparently a lot of other people like it.

I think maybe we want to get a second opinion. What tastes bad for me doesn't necessary tastes bad for you.

Strange as it may seem some people actually can like what others hate when it comes to taste.
Sometimes it is because the first person is wondering if they are missing something, or if the food item has turned other times it is because we want another's reaction to whatever it may be.
There have been foods I didn't care for when I first tried them yet after testing several times I came to realize it was my own preconceived notions that caused this dislike.
So when someone says
'Ewww this tastes terrible, try it'. First smell it, if it smells bad, forget it, if it smells ok give it a try, you just may like it.
Shock those people with bad taste buds! LOL!
