I've been posting about dengue fever which is a viral infection also called brokebone fever because of the severe pain it can cause. Johnson & Johnson has a pill in the works that could prevent dengue. Experts warn that dengue is a growing health threat to the United States. There are 4 strains of the virus currently in 10 countries which includes Thailand, the Philippines, Brazil, Columbia and Peru. Johnson & Johnson stated that future testing may prove that the pill can also be helpful in treating those already infected. 40,000 people die from dengue each year. Mary Lou Retton, 55, the Olympic gold medalist, remains in the ICU battling a rare form of pneumonia. When our power was out last week, I forgot to tell you that because of the internet being down along with our V service, I began to read a book. As you probably know, I had been on a reading hiatus for a couple of years because I had so much trouble concentrating. Hopefully I can set aside some time each day to sit and read. Breakfast - Protein bar Lunch - We have some frozen Meals on Wheels - Stuffed pepper, mashed potatoes, zucchini and a plum Dessert/Snack - Blueberry muffin and decaf coffee Dinner - A piece of pizza What did you eat yesterday? It's sad that Dengue Fever kills so many. I hope Mary Lou Retton will be all right. Reading is good. I don't read as much as I did because I'm mostly writing. Your meals sound good. My meals yesterday: Breakfast Raisin Bran and a banana. Dinner - Salmon and cheesy potatoes. I never made the potatoes the way I did yesterday. They were delicious! I used sour cream in them along with a small amount of milk, shredded cheese, and onion.

The Janssen Pharmaceutical (owed by J&J) announced the past month of March in Belgium that they were testing a new antiviral pill to prevent dengue. I hope their tests are advancing and will prove good to help people around the world. They started testing in October 2021.

I had a ham and cheese sandwich for breakfast. I made pasta and beef for lunch and ate chicken salad for supper last night. I always try to read part of a book every day. I'm re-reading the Shadowhunter series by Cassandra Clare right now. I enjoy her books.

I am in the middle of a good book at the moment. It's called The Lace Maker.

@LindaOHio It's about women in Estonia during the occupation of their country first by Russia then by Germany during the period of WWI. They kept their shawl-knitting traditions alive throughout their trials. It's actually The Lace Weaver, not The Lace Maker.

Terrible that dengue continues to be a problem. Granted, it's still mostly a problem outside of here, but as was mentioned, it is still something to be concerned about here. For dinner last night we used some leftover pulled pork and made salads with pulled pork in them. It was delicious. Tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, onions, croutons, bacon bits, pulled pork and dressing. Mmmm.

It has been a problem that we usually encounter during the summer season here in the Philippines. Fumigation is what they are doing during the dry season.

That's good about reading, I suppose lol. I haven't read a book in a long time. Sounds like interesting meals, pizza being the one I would eat. We had chicken nuggets and fries for a meal, birthday cake for dessert
