Heat was off

I awoke this morning to a cold apartment. I looked at the thermostat and it was blank. Nothing to do but get dressed and wait for the office to open. They open at ten on Saturday so I grabbed a sparce breakfast while I waited and was at the office at ten. It was a short time until maintenance knocked on the door. He took the thermometer down and looked inside and said it needed a new battery. He went out and was back in a few minutes with a battery, put it in places and the heat came on. So now I have a nice warm apartment. Has your heat ever gone off? I saw this tree when I was out walking today. The red looked so pretty among the yellow.

Heat has been on after our first frost last week. These next few days we will hit 80. Roller coaster. Nice photo.

I'm glad the office is open on Saturday so you could get the thermostat fixed. Our office is closed on weekends.

@just4him I’ve hardly needed heat. It’s in the high seventies. It was in the forties last night.

That's a beautiful picture. I'm glad maintenance came right away and replaced the battery. When we first moved in, the heat didn't work. We had to get a whole new furnace. Have a good day.

That’s exactly what I was afraid of and no telling how long it would take to get a new furnace.

@LindaOHio I had to wait over a week when my water heater went out, then they sent electric instead of a gas heater and it had to be changed.

Had I seen a blank screen on the thermostat that would have been the very first thing I would have checked and just replaced the battery myself. But glad you got it resolved even if the maintenance guy probably walked away scratching his head.

Our maintenances folks are very:nice an don’t want any tenant involved in fixing things themselves. They like to do it their way, and no, there was no head scratching.

@porwest Absolutely, they change my light bulbs. That’s why I live in an apartment. Maintenance takes care of everything.

Oh, what a morning adventure with your thermostat! It's a good thing you got it sorted out and now have a cozy, warm apartment to enjoy. Here in Singapore, it's usually cooler than needing a heater ;) As for the tree you saw while out walking, I can just imagine how stunning that splash of red must have looked against the backdrop of yellow. Nature has a way of surprising us with its vibrant beauty, even on the simplest walks. I hope I can share too stunning sights on my next walk..

That tree is the only tree that has red leaves in our complex. Today I walked through a near by complex and they have trees of beautiful red leaves. I snapped a few pictures with my cell phone.

Glad that you got your heat back and it wasn't a huge problem. This isn't the time of year we want to be without heat. That tree is so pretty. I love this time of year when the leaves all change color.

@RubyHawk it's hard to pick since both are so pretty. I love Fall with the leaves changing but the green of spring just breathes new life after a long winter.

It was no problem at all but I was worried it would be. I don’t know which I like best, the pretty fall colors or the first green leaves of spring.

This is the first I can remember the heat going out. If yours does go off, check the battery in the thermostat first.

The tree is gorgeous. Yes, we have heat go out, not in this house. We have to light our furnaces here to have heat. I have had the hot water heater go out as well.

I am going to avoid using my gas this Winter. PG and E is still trying to pay the fines for the wildfires they caused. Ultimately, the customer pays. It's too expensive. I will use my stove and sweatshirts.

I keep my thermostat on 66. I have forgotten. Did gas lines cause the wild fires? My furnace and stove uses gas. I wish to goodness they were electric. Gas is terribly expensive.
