Waddaya Know, I Found a Waterfall

On this beautiful, sunny, comfortable Sunday afternoon I found myself driving along the Natchez Trace Parkway. Suddenly, a sign jumped out at me: “Jackson Falls ahead.”
You know me when it comes to waterfalls!!
This was pretty minimal because it’s been on the dry side in Tennessee (just below, in Alabama, the entire state is in “drought” status), but that doesn’t mean I didn’t have a great time walking about 1/4 of a mile to the viewing platform and enjoying the sound and the vision.
This is a good time to see it, too, because in that decreased flow condition I’d never see it through the trees in summer.
So this trip is about six hours old and it’s already a success: I found a waterfall!
Jackson Falls from the overlook. (In a wider view picture I took, you can see the parking lot, so it wasn’t a strenuous or long walk at all!)

The water looks clear. Quite nice to take a bath there.

Yes, quite clear. The problem is the water level is so low that all you can bathe is your ankles.

@FourWalls Yeah, I can see how low it is since the trees are quite bigger. Can we call it a super mini waterfall.

It’s funny to see the meteorologists talking about how you could use some rain while saying there’s a river flood warning on the St. John’s River.

With water flow that low we need Coast Guard jokes instead.

Low rain makes for low waterfalls (a number of the falls in Alabama are bone dry). But it’s good for me!

1/4 mile walk to see a waterfall is awesome! I have been to quite a few like that with my little one the past two years. I just spotted one recently but was in a hurry and couldn’t stop to take a photo but I hope to get back there soon to do just that. I love waterfalls.

The shortest walk I’ve had is Cumberland Falls in Kentucky. You can see that from the parking lot.

Nature was everywhere on the Trace. I saw three or four deer, including a couple of fawns.

I do, too. I could hear this one from the parking lot, even though it wasn’t very big.

It’ll never give Niagara or Multnomah Falls any competition, but I love even the small ones!
