Frugal Shopping: Dollar Tree Haul November 11th, 2023

I haven't done one of these posts in forever. There's a few reasons for that. One of them being that we don't have internet at home- so it's hard to do posts with picture. I also haven't gotten a "haul" from DT in awhile. Since we've been on the go most of the time- usually between Doctors Appointments, I just haven't done any "real" shopping. I needed shampoo and a couple other things so we went to the DT down the street from the hotel. I know usually I name each and every thing that I bought, but I'm not feeling good enough to do all that tonight. So instead you get a lovely picture and the total that I spent on everything. I guess it wasn't really that big of a haul and like always I picked up a couple things that we didn't really need. We actually made a list before we went that had: deodorant, shampoo, razors, foot cream and drinks on it. So we strayed from the list a little bit- but we got everything we needed anyway. What's the last thing you got a good deal on?

My dinner was free (thanks to a Veterans Day deal at Pilot truck stops), and my hotel was free (thanks to a lot of points).

I go at least once a month to get a few things we use on a regular basis. One is their sodium free seasoning. It's good and just as good as Mrs. Dash and sure beats the price!! My last good deal was the bag of plums at the grocery store for $1.00. It had over 4 lbs. of plums in it! I'm still eating plums!

@thislittlepennyearns The plum were over $4 a lb. here. I was not going to pay that for them. Crazy!! So, when I saw the bag for $1, I grabbed one!!

Great haul. I was there yesterday but only grab 3 items. So, tempting to grab fall decor and some Christmas but, promised myself, no more shopping on those items, lol!

I haven't decorated yet, and may not decorate until Christmas time- which it isn't yet.

I buy dish soap there too. And usually laundry soap- and a lot of office supplies. I got laundry soap at dollar general today, because it was the little pods, since we are at the hotel its easier to keep up with and they were 21 pods for $4 and it was a better deal.

I will only poo-poo the sodas and the sweet tea. None of those are a value at $1.25 each. No way in hell. lol

@porwest But I don't buy cans in a 12 or 24 pack. We buy bottled. The only time we buy cans is if they are at DT or we are in a hotel. So it made more sense at the time- even if they in the long run aren't neccesarily the cheapest. I bought drinks there again today.

@thislittlepennyearns You can't compare the next highest price. You have to compare the unit cost of the item in a multi-pack. Say the typical price of a 12-pack is $7. That's 58 cents per can. EVEN IF you paid $10 for a 12 pack that's still 83 cents per can. When you compare prices and shop for the best value, you shop for the best deal compared to the best price possible. Just my two cents. It's like the 6 pack bottled water at Dollar Tree. You might say it's a deal at $1.25. But that's $5 for a 24 pack. And the best price I can get for a 24 pack is $3.99. Same goes for toothpaste. Ultra-Brite is $1.25 for a 6 ounce tube at the Tree but it's 97 cents at Walmart. Comparing Target's price at $1.79 to the Tree's $1.25 does not make the Tree's price a bargain. I am a stickler. To me it's not a deal unless it is the best possible price I will pay for the item anywhere. IMO.
