Christmas Stuff

I know what you are saying, because I'd be saying it as well. How could you talk about Christmas? My turkey is not even cooked yet and far from being digested and processed for delivery to the local water treatment plant! My wife has jury duty today—local grand jury—and she will be home this afternoon. She asked if I had any plans and I asked her what are her plans? Perhaps that was not the right answer. To respond with another question. Because she said, "It's supposed to be fairly nice out. Maybe we should put out the Christmas stuff." Oh joy! On the bright side, I guess it will happen one way or another in any event. It will be okay weather with a high expected of 61 degrees. I suppose it's better to get it done now than wait until it's in the 40s and freeze our tails off doing it. ***Photo from 2015***

That is typically, as I recall, about the time we would normally do it, so this will be a bit early this year. Unfortunately, I have to mulch the leaves before we do it. It's full again, and it will be harder to mulch once there are some wires lying around. lol

@porwest We aren’t decorating outdoors this year. A lot of our decorations are packed or already at other house.

You should have not replied with another answer. I am not going to take care of Christmas stuff for another couple of weeks.

I have been thinking of Christmas right from August as I set out making plans for that party I throw for poor kids each Christmas.

I wish I enjoyed Christmas as much as most people do. It's just not my holiday, but I participate.

If I had my way, I wouldn't do any of it. I mean, I admit it looks nice when it's done. But it's really for us more than anyone else, which to me makes it a bit moot. But the wife says do it and so I comply. lol

@Tina30219 That's pretty much the same boat I am in. If it weren't for the wife, I'd probably not bother with it, even if I do kind of like it once it is all up.

I'm with you on getting the stuff out while the weather is nice. Some of the folks around the neighborhood already have their Christmas lights up and lit.

@porwest certainly better than doing it all in freezing cold, icy, snowy weather.

@Marilynda1225 Most likely that's what the weather will be like when it's time to take it all down. I guess on the bright side, taking it down is much easier than putting it up. lol

It turned out to be remarkably nice weather. Was out there in a tee shirt for most of it. Perfect timing if you ask me.

I've got a neighbor down the street that put up their Christmas decorations on November 1. To me, that's a little too early. I usually wait until the weekend after Thanksgiving, but it really depends on the weather.

@porwest I will admit, I dread the putting up and taking down part, but I absolutely love when it's all said and done and lit up. It looks beautiful. Plus, I always get tons of neighbors stop by to admire the decorations and chat, so it is a great community builder with my neighbors. I live in a gated community, so I don't get any drive-by admirers, but with my set up I believe I would get a steady stream of cars driving by if they had access.

If I had my way I probably would not put them up at all. I mean, I will admit, I like it once it's done. But who really sees it? That's my thing. And who really cares but us? lol

@moffittjc I am right there with you. Once it is all said and done and "up and running," I am happy with it. But I say the same thing. Nobody really stops to look at it. So, it's really all just for us to enjoy.

I usually decorate Black Friday weekend. My mother has been talking about putting out some Christmas lights outside, but she hasn't done it yet.

Usually we're an "after Thanksgiving" deal as well. But the weather was just too nice to pass up the opportunity. Considering what the weather was like yesterday, I am glad we didn't wait.

My wife has a thing for Christmas penguins. I don't know what it is. It's been an ongoing joke and much fodder for Facebook posts with several of them in the microwave, on baking sheets, and of course The Elf on a Shelf parodies we did on YouTube. Maybe through to Christmas I will share some of that here. I should be able to share the Elf on a Shelf parodies from YouTube as well since they are not monetized, although I will have to put a disclaimer on my posts. Who knows? They might take them down anyway.
