I succumbed to the Black Friday sales

The photo is of a niece’s dog wearing his Christmas outfit. I like to think of myself as a frugal shopper and not given to impulse buying. However, I succumbed today and bought four items at the Black Friday sales. They are from a catalogue which arrives regularly and which I enjoy perusing although I don’t often buy from it. They had some really good deals, or so it seemed to me, and I bought my sister a garden decoration. It is a cut-out dachshund which holds a solar lamp. My sister had a dachshund once and is very fond of them. She also loves her garden and has a few ornaments around the place. I also bought a new bedspread and matching pillow cases. It is a lightweight summer one and can replace our heavier red embossed winter one. I also bought a battery-powered scrubber which has several different heads. I’m hoping it will take a load off my shoulders when I need to scrub something. The items all added up to enough to give me free postage.

We do our best to ignore Black Friday sales... I always hated having to work on Black Friday because I'd get stuck in the store and couldn't leave after my shift until a bunch of the crowd had left... It was annoying. Shopping from a catalogue might not be too bad, though. Thankfully, none of the stores send us any magazines.

The magazine came a few days ago but the Black Friday specials came up online. I wouldn't normally bother but the prices were really good for the few things I'd eyed off in the magazine.

I got lucky this time. The garden ornament for my sister was less than half price so I was pleased with that.

So did all this "Sales" buying disrupted your or Vince's budget? Or was it within the budget or expectation? Often such Sales and Offers make us but more. So it should be pretty normal!

@JudyEv Yet sometimes we save money on things we actually do not need for some time. But well, it depends on whether the things are the ones that last for a few days or can last longer.

@JudyEv That is actually a good idea. The Physical card giving trend is on the wane here. I do not think many folks would be using that now.

I was very careful not to get carried away. They did have some very good bargains though. If I'd bought a lot more, I would have saved a heap of money.

I bought the battery-powered scrubber a few months ago and I am quite satisfied with it. Your niece’s dog is cute, she does not seem to mind being dressed, the dog of my niece got mad when we tried to dress her.

@JudyEv - I also bought extra pads, I did not need to replace for the moment, it seems they last for quite a good time.

I bought the extra pads as well. I don't know how long the pads will last or where you'd buy new ones so that was a bit of a concern. I didn't buy them when I saw them in the magazine although I was tempted but then I had a second chance when the deals came online. I'm glad to hear you're happy with it.

I hope you did not buy a thing for a dog to wear and ask, "Mom, how long do I have to do this?"

@JudyEv I have never put a pair of Easter ears or antlers on my horse or cat. And certainly not my parakeet.

@TheHorse I was thinking more of the colourful harnesses and collars. I put a Christmas hat on Herc once but was sorry I did. I'm sure he didn't appreciate it. I felt it was demeaning.

@Ronrybs My little cat loved a two-litre plastic ice-cream container. She would squash herself into it quite happily and sleep the day away.

@JudyEv More for the recycling! I like small parcels and Gaia likes the boxes. Still have an Amazon box from months ago that she fits in just nicely

I just checked and I now know that Black Friday Sales are also available in India Anyway I have no interest at the moment to spend. Do they show the real price so that you feel you hae done a bargain?

Yes, both prices are shown but there is no guarantee that the first price hasn't been jacked up before the sales.

I am tempted to buy a print cartridge from eBay on Black Friday myself when the money I made from surveys is approved by my bank since I will need a cartridge for my printer.

This Black Friday nonsense seems to have gone global. I blame Amazon, as they introduced it over here and now everyone is offering ‘deals’. I’m considering a hive controlled heating system to save me keep fiddling with the current TRVs that I fitted atm. It’s not cheap though, even at the ‘bargain’ price - about £40 per controller. Plus they need batteries, and I don’t know how long they last. Do I need the system, or can I put up with fiddling around with the manual controls, or do I just move house? Maybe to somewhere warmer like Southern Spain, where they don’t have this problem.

If you move to southern Spain, you might find yourself with a different problem! Once, Black Friday only fell on Friday 13th but that seems to have gone by the board.
