Can you use it?

Do you ever get a gift, and wonder how you are going to use it? I’m not talking about being ungrateful; more like genuine confusion. I thought about when my dad’s side of the family would draw names to give gifts, and one of my cousins-in-law (they are no longer married) got me a rag doll. I was 13 years old, 5’11, and look the same now (younger, but you know what I mean) as I did then. My mom told me to go thank her, and I told my mom she obviously has no idea who I am she’s not going to want me to thank her (my dad’s family is huge). She still instructed me to go thank her, so I did. Boy, was I right! Her eyes got big, her face turned red, and she looked stupefied. She had not known who I was, and was embarrassed. I honestly did not care, and thought it was hilarious.
What you see in the picture is one of the things I got my dad for Christmas. I was looking at it, wondering how many of those uses I could take advantage of, but I am definitely not in need of wire cutters. I’m actually really excited to see how he likes it as he is always doing something I didn’t expect. I think he’ll use it in almost almost all ways possible.
So what about you guys? Have you ever gotten a present you were unsure of the use? Could you use this multi tool I got my dad? And just for the heck of it, can you name all the capitals of the 50 United States?

Fun part of Gifts are -
1. They can be passed in different marriages. Did you know I didn't even opened a gift wrap and send it as it is to my friend on his birthday. Only worst part was - I was not aware he added a Happy Birthday card handwritten with my name.
Later I had to explain him that I told the shopkeeper to keep my name in FROM instead they kept in TO
2. My mom usually says it's thoughts which matters then a gift type and cost.
Edit -
I can't even tell you one capital of states.

Tool people love gadgetry stuff . . . I know my dad would have had fun with that! My sister in law gave me this weird, already opened, obvious regifted massage kit for couples (I think I've mentioned this on myLot a billion times over ). Of course I know how it was supposed to be used - but the question is was I seriously going to use this . I used to know all the capitals - probably rusty now.

@AmbiePam You just have to wonder what in the world were they thinking in giving us these gifts . The sad part was my sister in law also tried to convince me what a cool gift that massage kit was . I know it's the thought that counts, but um, what if there's no thought .

I have a friend who visits me every year when she comes from the US and brings me a box of Ferrero Rocher. I am tired of eating those chocolates but do not know how to say it (lol)

I used to be able to name the capitals of all 50 states. I remember us learning them in 5th or 6th grade and my parents quizzing me at the dinner table on them. As for the gift, it looks like something I would have gotten my Dad.

Maybe on the capitals. I have one or two of those from my son. I keep one at work. We use it now and again. Sometimes to cut wires.

I remember getting some kind of stitching kits from the extended family one time when I was a kid, and I hate sewing. I also got a book one year that was maybe a classic, but it was small...like mini print or something. I did not find it useful.

@jstory07 Yes, I think it did. I was going to donate it to Goodwill, but I liked knowing it was going to the sweetest girl around. That sweet girl has her own two daughters now, and I can’t help but be amazed at how time has absolutely flown! She’s 37 now.

I could use that at times.
I got purple jeans one time. My younger sister was into colored clothes so mom bought me a pair too. I wore them to visit her many times so I knew her feelings wouldn't be hurt. But I didn't really like them

That's pretty funny about you getting the rag doll but it certainly has given you a laugh with the memories.
I'm sure you dad will love that gift. I know at least one of my grandsons would love that tool.
I don't think I've ever gotten a gift I wasn't sure of but I do know I've gotten some I had no need for.
Nope, I could probably only name some of the capitals but not all

Maybe in fourth grade I could name all the capitals of the US. Not today.
The only present I got that I didn't want and yet grew on me was the album The Graduate. I told everyone I wanted Elvis. My brother gave me something I had no use for, but because I didn't want to seem ungrateful, I started playing it. There are two songs on the album I love. Sounds of Silence and whatever the name of the last song on the album was with the fantastic drum solo. I just looked it up. It isn't Sounds of Silence but Scarborough Fair. The drum solo is Singleman Party Foxtrot. I don't know if it has words, but it has a long drum solo in it that I loved.

That's a very handy gift. No, I can't name all 50 capitals. I've always known what the gift was used for. Have a good week.

That’s a nice gadget that you got your dad. Once upon a time I knew all of the capitals.

I got exactly what you've shown several years ago. I should keep it in my truck. The thing scared me so much I tucked it away and have never used it since. I think I would accidentally slit my wrist before I got a bottle open with that thing.

I've received odd gifts and just give away after saying thank you. Had a different colored ceramic cat with pins for whiskers given to me once.
My son receives a summer sausage every year from his ex. He has said please no food and no gifts, just spend on the girls. Yet, she does it anyway. It usually goes in the food donation box.

I have a simple wire cutter and I use it very frequently for my art and craft projects to cut thin metal wires. But mine doesn't look this complicated..
I got few gifts in the past that I couldn't use. But glad I got someone to pass it on and they used it
