A cute little robot delivered the drinks

We put the car in for a service a few days ago and the company’s shuttle bus dropped us off at a big shopping centre. As we were going to be there for some hours, we decided to go to the movies. The only film that had any appeal at all was Napoleon so that’s what we went to see.
The theatre had lay-back seats which we hadn’t encountered before so that was nice. There was at least 20 minutes of ads and trailers before the actual film started and it lasted 158 minutes so it certainly wasn’t a problem to fill in the time.
Luckily, there was a sushi train place right next to the cinema so we had lunch there. They also had robots to deliver drinks. Vince isn’t happy with the photo he took but it’s of the robot. Have you seen them in operation? I was pretty impressed with it.

This show was on prime time TV back in the mid 1960s here in the US. I used to watch it every week, then it became one of the Saturday morning cartoons in the 1980s or so.

That pretty cool that you had a robot deliver the drinks. Things certainly are changing aren't they. Who would have thought we'd see the day that robots would be waiting tables. Do robots expect tips?? ![](/Content/images/emotes/lol.gif)

@Marilynda1225 It does make things easier. Some places having tipping jars on the front counter and there is always an option to give Uber drivers a tip but it's not really commonplace.

Not one like that but I saw one cleaning in the store a couple of weeks ago. I was wondering if it stocked shelves too? Where my nephew's fiancee's sister goes to college, there is one that delivers food on campus. He said it gets stuck sometimes though, and if the kids see it hung up on a curb or something they help it get over it.

I’ve never seen a robot waiter, but I hear it’s the future. As humans, I think we don’t need to worry about losing jobs, but we should worry if the robots start ordering drinks. Then we WILL be surplus to requirements. ![](/Content/images/emotes/fear.gif)

@JudyEv I was going to ask if you left it a tip, but I see from other comments you don’t even tip real people down under. ![](/Content/images/emotes/lol.gif)

@Orson_Kart Just very, very occasionally we might tip 'unreal' peope if they do something really special. ![](/Content/images/emotes/silly.gif)

That robot took someone's job, lol. ![](/Content/images/emotes/cry.gif)
Anyway, Napolean looks like an interesting movie to see. I'm a history buff so I would definitely want to watch it. What did you think of it?

I'm not keen on robots taking over the workforce either. I never use self-checkouts but there isn't much other than that that I can do to stop such practices. I thought Napoleon was well done. The fight scenes must have taken a LOT of coordinating.

@JudyEv I do use self-checkouts when grocery shopping sometimes. It can be faster than going through a regular checkout when there is a wait line. But that is what happens when you raise the minimum wage for certain type jobs.
Yes, Napolean and the war scenes must have been epic.

I found it quite fascinating, watching it move up and down the aisles.

I'm glad you were able to fill your time while the car was serviced. Did you enjoy the movie? I've seen commercials for it here. It looks interesting.
The drinks robot looks interesting. No, I've never had a robot deliver anything.

The sushi train was pretty cute too. Have you seen them? Each colour plate is a certain price but down the centre was another little train that seemed to rush back and forth rather than going round and round. I can't remember now what he carried.

We've never been served by a robot. How was Napoleon? Have a great day.

I have never actually seen one "in person," but I know they exist. I don't like the idea of them anymore than I like the idea of self-checkouts. Part of it comes down to my little idea that PART of the reason I want to patronize a business is because I know someone will have a job because of it.

Fair enough. I didn't know the place had robots but it probably wouldn't stop me using them. What will stop me going there is that I had a reaction to something and came out in itchy welts. It's happened before but I've never been able to pin down what it is that I'm sensitive to.

Wow, that’s cool! As long as the robot doesn’t get your order wrong I guess that’s great. No tipping. ![](/Content/images/emotes/rofl.gif)
