we need to find a nice balance between participation and content. but i guess it's hard to do with such a wide community...differenet age groups, cultures etc....many people who answer with short statements may not be able to type out more than that in english.....it would be cool if mylot became multi-lingual, like having mylot.se for swedish users, or mylot.ca for canadians, etc...

I guess you are right at 50%. It is not cultural thing. People smell trends and jump into. It should be brief discussion not a long personal story.

Every topic should lead people to at least think before they respond.

I just joined, so perhaps I missed the rubbish. It looks like some people are hard pressed to come up with ideas.

"A WISE MAN CAN LEARN MORE FROM A FOOLISH QUESTION THAN A FOOL CAN LEARN FROM A WISE ANSWER". Please do not take this personal to your discussion, but this is my take on all discussions to learn what I can about the people in MyLot.

Obviously, most of the discussions are geared toward getting people to react. The general feel of this type of forum is based on such things. I'd imagine that the creators of this site could write a pretty extensive sociological analysis -- perhaps that is what they are doing.

The best way to treat these sorts of discussions is not to respond, and hopefully that will reduce the number of them that are appearing. Of course some might be genuine but I believe a lot of them are not, and myLot did delete a lot of those discussions a few weeks ago thankfully.
Why encourage this sort of discussion when, in most instances, the people are only trying to earn the extra money from the greater number of responses. I am certain that awful things do happen to many people but in some cases it seems as though a certain element of people are trying to "outdo" each other.

Sorry you feel that. Some people who do that just want to share something with their friends and probably asking for support, no need to be mean to them.

I am not mean, some are real, but most are not. Use your common sense and you will see the real one.

Yes, you are totally right. But you do not have to respond them. I hope my questions are not so stupid. I have also friend who has correct, interesting questions.

I have also noticed this over the past several days. The stories are getting more and more dramatic; oftentimes the same user posts more than one discussion about different crisis situations in their lives. I will do anything to help other people within reason, and I like to offer hope and support, but I think that a lot of this stuff is simply made up. If the situations were true, then the user would check back with the discussion and respond to the posts that are left for him or her. I stay away from the soap-opera stuff, unless it truly seems legit.

I just wonder if anyone responding to those kinds of posts actually believes them. I make it a point to avoid any posts that are obviously just trying to boost responses. I hate all that fake stuff. Although I do get a good laugh from it now and then.
