Last Time You Were at a Theater

Today, Diana (my stepmom) and I went to see Wonka (at 25% off), and it was a magical movie. My sister and brother-in-law had taken my 12 year old niece, Amyra (pictured) to see it as part of her A Day (both her siblings went too), and they highly recommended it (Amyra bought that hat for Wonka right after the movie, she loved it so much). I admit the movie made me a bit teary, but it was so good, and I highly recommend it. When was the last time you were at a theater, and what did you see? It doesn’t even have to be a movie, but a play at a local theater. I know a lot of people have refrained from going since Covid. *An A Day is the celebration of the official day of adoption. It’s like a second birthday.

I didn't even know there was a movie called Wonka out in theatres. Glad you enjoyed it, and they recommended it. Last movie we saw was the Super Mario movie because we had three free tickets lol.

Free tickets, that’s worth getting psyched about. I think Eli would like Wonka. Honestly, some of the visuals are like your art come to life. Did you ever see Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with Gene Wilder from decades ago? This movie is basically the story of how he came to be famous for his chocolate factory.

@AmbiePam We got them as a Christmas gift the year before....so was very cool! He might, sometimes it is hard to know what he will like lol. I never saw any of the Willy Wonka/Chocolate Factory movies - not a single one! lol. I am very picky with what I watch lol.....so a lot of genres I just won't watch lol. I think that is where Eli gets it lol

Not too long ago, probably in the fall, but I don't really remember what we saw. I want to see Napoleon if it is still out. Wonka sounds like a decent possibility too. I think I might rather see something scary though.

Something scary? I saw a preview of Night Swim about ten days ago in a theater. That looked terrifying. I do hope you somehow do see Wonka at one time or another. Hugh Grant was brilliant in his role of an Oompa Loompa, and Timothy Chalamet (however you spell it) was so good at being Wonka.

@AmbiePam NIght Swim does look scary. I saw something about Santa on a dark background that might be scary too. Maybe Wonka would be more holiday appropriate though.

@snowy22315 Was the Santa in the dark background from the new movie, Thanksgiving? It has a lot of Christmas in its trailer. Patrick Dempsey is in that one, and I don’t mind looking at him!

I sure hope it wouldn’t! Before last year, it had been four years since I’d been in a theater. Movies generally aren’t on my radar.

@rebelann I get distracted at home, unfortunately. I don’t know what my deal is because back when I had Netflix I watched movies all the time at home.

The last time I was in a movie house was in 1987 — and it was an “art cinema” kind of thing that showed indie films instead of the “big budget blockbusters” (and showed Rocky Horror every weekend) — to see Spalding Gray’s monologue movie Swimming to Cambodia.

Amyra looks cool in that hat. I am sure that she enjoyed it to the fullest . I have heard the name of the movie for the first time. I should check this out. Our frequency to theatres has reduced a lot after the pandemic. We visited it two weeks back

@AmbiePam I have to check if it's released here and running in the theatre. There are two good Bollywood movies running at present and I would like to watch both.

@AmbiePam true, I have been a fan of anything Mario since my earliest childhood memories, and I liked that it was a film we could safely take him to. As a side note, I remember having Mario curtains, toys, games, and bedding as a kid. A bit obsessed? Perhaps. Lol.

It was years ago that I saw a movie in a theatre. My niece took me and she got the tickets at the last moment which meant we had to sit right in front. The sound was so loud that I just wanted to leave.

@ambiepam It’s being years since I saw a movie - can’t stand the behaviour of other movie goers. That’s nice having an A Day. My youngest has Happy Heart day on June 6 to celebrate her open heart surgery she had at 11 weeks old.

That's such a good idea to celebrate adoptions. Our last theatre visit would have been to see Napoleon. We enjoyed sitting the layback chairs that they have at that theatre.

The reclining seats these days are so much better for my back. Not once during that movie did my back hurt. Did you think Joaquin Phoenix was pretty good in Napoleon? It seems like the kind of movie that is Oscar bait.

@AmbiePam That's great that those seats suit your back. I thought Joaquin was very good. It's funny how he looked completely different from his role in, say, Walk The Line. Tom Hanks is another that can look totally different from one film to the next.

That's a great picture of Amyra on her A Day. I want to see Wonka too. I liked the other Willy Wonka movies. I haven't been to a theater in decades. We wait until the movie shows up on TV. Have a great weekend.

It is definitely a lot cheaper to wait to watch them at home. I always go during the day because at night they bump up the prices to a ridiculous amount.

The last time I went to a movie theater was pre-Covid. Actually, I don't miss it, as the majority of pictures don't suit my taste, are remakes or filled with woke messages. I did notice a couple of historical movies out now like "Napolean" but I'll just wait to stream it.

I sure do appreciate people who don’t appreciate woke. I was kind of concerned they’d make Wonka woke, but they didn’t.

I haven't been to a theater in a long time. I honestly have no desire to anymore for the most part, I just wait for it to hit TV in some form. Since Covid, many theaters are struggling. I celebrate my oldest son's adoption day, too. One of the best days of my life!

It's been so long since I went to the movies at a theatre, I don't remember what it was. Honestly the last movie I remember seeing in a theatre was Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. That may tell you how long it's been. There may have been something since, but it evidently wasn't that memorable.

I dislike going out to the theatre, I always have. It bothers me (and did before covid) of being in an enclosed space breathing in everyone else's germs. That being said............my manager rented a theatre for our Christmas party for about 15 of us for Christmas 2020. It was alot of fun, I cannot remember what we saw, just that it was fun seeing people in person and having so much space all to ourselves.
