thinking about writing your own wedding vows? If so, you're not alone. Millions of couples are bypassing traditional ceremonies in favor of something that's more personal - and that's great! But problems arise when couples aren't clear with each other about the style of vows they want.

When we got married 36 years ago we had the traditional vows, and there was no choice about the matter then. However I have to say that I really had no problems with the vows we exchanged and they are still working for us today.
I do have to say that if a couple aren't clear with each other about what they want, then there is a definate lack of communication which should be resolved before they get married.

I prefer the traditional vows. There's just something about it that I couldn't not have them. It's part of a tradition and I want that in my wedding.

I'd go with the ones the couples write themselves. Too bad ours weren't like that. The minster gave us a chose of the vows that we had to pick from, so we pick the one that we both think decribed us and it sort of came from our hearts.
