Do You Like Pickles?

A pickle is a small cucumber that has been pickled in brine, vinegar or other solution. It's called a pickle in the United States and Canada and a gherkin in the UK, New Zealand, Ireland, Australia and South Africa. Some of the types of pickles: brined pickles, bread-and-butter, gherkin (baby pickles), Kosher dill, Hungarian, Polish and German, Lime, pickle relish and Kool-Aid pickles. The history of pickles has two possible origins: They were first developed for workers building the Great Wall of China or they were made as early as 2030 BC in the Tigris Valley of Mesopotamia using cucumbers brought from India. I like the typical brined pickle, bread-and-butter pickle and pickle relish. How about you? Photo Credit: Pixabay

Pickles can be big as well. I prefer pickles the way Russians do it. No vinegar. Just water and salt. And then dill, mustard seed, and something else I forget. Vinegar ones tends to be too acidic at times.

@LindaOHio I don't use the liquid the pickles are in. Or are you referring to the juice inside the pickle when you bite into it?

@LindaOHio — oh, heck no. When I peel a cucumber it gets tomatoes, onions, and Italian dressing added immediately and served as a salad!!!

@FourWalls I love the tiny pickling cucumbers. They're so tasty; and they don't even need to be peeled.

I love dill pickles. Not crazy about bread and butter or sweet pickles. I'll eat them, just not my favorite. I like the fact they have zero calories.

@LindaOHio I have never been "bothered" by a pickle. But 99.9% of the time if I do have any pickle at all it is either on a sandwich or in a relish. It is rare for me to eat one by itself.

I hardly eat pickles but my kids love them and they are all dill pickles for the most part. They sometimes like bread and butter but I know for a fact that he doesn't like bread and butter.

I love pickles but haven't found any that are not too soggy. My absolute favorite was in Latvia. They were salted pickles and very crunchy and tasty but I have not found any like that here,

I buy brined pickles here for us to enjoy, usually the ones with a bit of garlic in the jar. My daughter-in-law used to make pickle soup, apparently that is a dish that the Polish enjoy. I have never had it, but our son says it is delicious. It puts a whole new spin on what we think soup should contain and taste like.

My husband likes the typical brined pickles with some herbs and spices in the brine. I do not like pickles. We call them "cetriolini".
