We need a new windscreen

Two days ago when we were driving to see my sister, a stone hit our windscreen, chipping it quite badly.
Apparently, if the chip is very slight, the professionals can fill the chip and repair it that way, rather than replacing the whole screen. But, if the chip is larger or in the CVA, then the screen must be replaced.
What is the CVA I hear you ask? It is an acronym for the Critical Vision Area and designates the area immediately in front of the driver. If a crack is patched in that area any oncoming headlights are distorted, making driving dangerous. Luckily, our car insurance entitles us to one free windscreen a year.
The photo is from a trip we did in the outback in a previous vehicle. The area we drove through was a bit muddy.

Glad that your insurance will cover the cost of the new windscreen. That happened to me a few years back when a car or truck kicked up a stone on the highway and it chipped my windshield. Lucky for me they were able to fill it and I didn't need a whole new replacement.

My husband is driving one of the cars with a scratched up windshield in the CVA. It really needs to be replaced. Have a good weekend.

@JudyEv I guess. He usually drives the other car which is in the garage.

Very generous insurance. You do not get that in the US very often. The deductibles are often prohibitive.

We are pleased with our insurance provider. The few times we've called on them they've been very quick to respond.

I think maybe on many of the roads there, vehicles don't travel as fast as they do here. I don't know if that might have something to do with it.

I hope the windscreen gets replaced. Nice photo. That's a good looking dirty car.

Get a second opinion before replacement, sometimes businesses would rather sell you a new windscreen than do the repair.
Love the photo, hope you had a power hose!
