I saw the news on the internet this morning , and apparently we are getting another fast food chain that will be competition for McDonalds. This new chain is called `Popeyes' and I must say that I have never heard of them before. They are known for their fried chicken and biscuits.
When I hear the word `Popeye' I always think of that cartoon character who was a sailor man.
Have you ever tried a Popeyes meal, and what was it like?
I would also like to know what biscuits they serve with chicken. In the UK biscuits are a sweet snack, but I presume their biscuits are something else.

Apparently they are opening in 30 towns in the UK. Maybe we will all get hooked on a new sort of biscuit that we can eat with our chicken.
I think it is a pity that we have to get another fast food chain here, we already have enough and our towns are crying out for different types of shops. We need something new , but not more food outlets.

@lazydaizee I never go to any fast food outlets. I can't even remember the last time. Maybe KFC once when I was a student? Or maybe it was the time I bought a McDonalds milkshake in Rome, that must have been in 1997 and everything else was closed for the afternoon.

@Fleura I had my last McDonalds in the 1990s, but I did have a KFC about 5 years ago. I had eaten KFC before and really enjoyed it, but the one I had 5 years ago was very disappointing.

Apparently they have been around since 1972 when they started out in New Orleans. Maybe they are going international.

@lazydaizee In the US often their biscuits are served with meats.

I am wondering why these biscuits would be eaten with a chicken meal?

We are getting our first Popeyes soon. They are a chicken chain like KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken). I don't know what their biscuits are like. They won't be sweet. Have a good day.

@lazydaizee I saw a Popeye's commercial on TV yesterday. They are pushing their new strawberry biscuits. I don't know if they are meant as a dessert or what???

Popeye's is a VERY popular fried chicken restaurant here in United States in direct competition with Kentucky Fried Chicken, Church's Chicken and other fried chicken establishments. I actually prefer Popeye's over KFC. Incidentally, for those who might be curious to know, Popeye's is owned by Restaurant Brands International, (U.S. ticker symbol QSR) who also owns Burger King, Firehouse Subs, Tim Horton's and The Habit.

@lazydaizee Tim Horton's does have U.S. locations, but it is much more popular in Canada. The Habit is fairly new chain with only a few locations. Firehouse Subs is largely an American thing.

@porwest In the UK we seem to have taken to foreign food, and fast food chains that did not originate here. People think that these sort of foods are more interesting than our own food. But I prefer good old fish and chips to any of the other kinds of fast food or takeaway.

I have had their chicken, from more than one location. I think it's super greasy, and will not go there. KFC is another one that has gone way downhill, I know I have seen most of the ones around here close up. I think we have one left, and they have a horrible rating. It's like no one cares, not even the owners. I hope if Popeyes is coming there, they do a better job of it than they do where I live.

I had a KFC about 5 years ago, but it was not very nice. The chicken was dry and the chips were too crispy. It did not even fill me up. KFC used to be good but things have changed. I think it is all about the money now rather than offering a good product.

Yes, Popeye’s is very famous here for their chicken centered menu. Their biscuits are the bready kind, where you put jam or honey, or gravy if it is breakfast. They are especially popular in the southern states, although people like them everywhere.

@lazydaizee You can eat them like a sandwich with the chicken, or warmed up with butter, jam, or honey. They’re flaky and fluffy.

Their biscuits sound interesting, do you eat them with the chicken or afterwards like a pudding?

I do not know how any business these days is making enough to invest in foreign stores.

Like you, when I hear "Popeye", I think of the carton character and spinach. We do not have Popeye fast food here.

Popeye liked his spinach because it made him strong. Maybe this was a way of getting children to eat more spinach at the time.
