On September 8, 1966 "Star Trek: The Original Series" aired on NBC. It only ran for three years but it has changed the face of science fiction forever. Sadly most of the original actors have passed away. Leonard Nimoy died in 2015 and Forest Kelly who played Dr. Mccoy died in 1999. They were the two basic actors besides William Shatner who is now 92 and is still thriving. George Takei started his career doing English language voiceovers to become Hikaru Sulu and is now 82. He still acts as well as a political activist. The third and final actor who is still alive is Walter Koenig who played Ensign Pavel Chekov in the series.
Are you a Trekkie?

I remember seeing reruns of Star Trek but I am not exactly a Trekkie.

@celticeagle We only had two TV channels in Italy in 1966 and only starting at 6:00 p.m. We were all the time my brother and I watching before dinner time.

I watched Star Trek but not a Trekkie. I prefer Star Wars and love the original ones with Harrison Ford.

I am not a Trekkie. But I am a big fan of The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon shows. I have watched them so many times. Sheldon is a big Trekkie and so are his friends. So, I know a bit about it through the show and all these names sound so familiar.

I enjoy The Big Bang Theory too. And Young Sheldon. Remember the episode where they are all dressed in Star Trek costumes and get stranded? So funny.

I am a Trekkie. The Original is by far the best in my opinion. Very cheesy I know, but fantastic. I knew Shatner and Takei were still alive but not Walter Koenig. I loved watching it in the sixties and appreciated the ladies on the show even more as I got older.

it sure has its merits. I was told about the series from a friend. I like to see the change in technology through out each and every part of it. I am so glad that I was able to see both.

I think voice over is a good paying job in America. I haven't watched star trek.

Yes, I'm a Trekkie!
Even a lot of the guest stars from TOS are gone now. Although Julie Newmar and Joan Collins are still with us.
I've no doubt Paramount have things planned in celebration, although Star Trek often seemed to succeed in spite of the studio rather than because of it!

I'd say I'm a casual fan. I probably first saw the series when i was about 5, and I'll always watch it if it's on. They managed to get the right combination of good scripts and likeable characters.
