Do you have big ears?

MyLotter @sissy15 wrote about her son having big ears and how cute it is/was. Her son is now growing into his big ears. I reminded me of our son. When he was about four years old, he overheard something we said to each other, and I said to him ’You’ve got big ears’. He felt them thoughtfully then said ‘Yes, I have, haven’t I?’ And a bit of trivia. They say our ear lobes never stop growing. Photo of our son who has now turned 50. It was all cowboys back then.

What an adorable story and an even cuter picture. I did not know this about our ear lobes, I suppose that to a certain extent they get thicker and maybe stronger, otherwise women who wear heavy hoops would have saggy earlobes.

Surely they can't grow much or we'd notice it in photos or whatever.

Women who wear big earrings do get saggy earlobes. That's one reason I don't like pierced ears.

@Fleura I have noticed that with women who wear ear-rings. And now the guys are putting discs in their ears.

I had heard ears and noses keep growing. My nose definitely has since I was a teen . My ear lobes are small. My kids all have normal size ears.

@JudyEv I noticed from my photos over the years it makes the space between my nose and lip look shorter.

Gosh, my nose has always been a fair size. I hope it doesn't get any bigger. Maybe it has and I just haven't noticed it.

I read ears never stop either. I think I have big ears and I'm told mine are normal. I'd like them closer to my head. That was cute what your son said.

At least with ladies, mostly the hair-styles tend to draw attention away from ears that stick out.

That’s such a good photo! I had a cousin with such huge ears that they stuck out far enough that her insurance paid for them to be pinned back. Insurance usually counts that as cosmetic, and rejects that kind of procedure. But her ears were just that big and wide.

Gosh, that poor girl. But you're right that normally such an operation would be seen as cosmetic.

Do you remember King Charles' ears always stuck out? There was a face-on photo of him taken very recently and his ears don't stick out at all now. It's very sad that he has been diagnosed with cancer.

Your young cowboy was very cute. I have read about ear lobes, this must be true as you look at those women with pierced ears.

@JudyEv - I thought that it was the reason, but my mother never wore heavy ear-rings, only the small round ones.

@LadyDuck I think really that some have larger ear-lobes than others.

Over many years, probably the weight of ear-rings gradually causes them to lengthen.

That is a cute photo. I don't think I had big ears but I do know my mom decided to make sure they stayed against my head so she often tied bonnets on me,

Made me think of Red Riding Hood 'What big ears you have, Grandma'. Do you remember how Prince Charles used to get an awful lot of stick for his sticking-out ears? No-one's mentioned them for decades now.

@Fleura He must have had them pinned back at some stage. There is a very recent front-on photo of him and his ears aren't prominent at all. It's sad that he is now fighting cancer.

I have a school photo of six or seven of the boys and it's very noticeable that all their ears stick out. I haven't actually noticed Charles' ears lately. Now you'll have me watching out for his ears.

It's a saying. If you say someone has big ears, it means they hear things they shouldn't or that they eavesdrop.

@JudyEv The ones across from us she yells a lot and can hear it. I do not care what they do just so they leave our stuff alone but they do not and she is a bully tattle tale and we do not like each other. I still can hear all that goes on here. I remember when I first moved in it was our Sabbath and the noise was terrible and the ones on the other side of us do not care and do not respect those that want to enjoy our Sabbath and during the week you hear them too.

Yes, that's what I heard about ears. I guess I have big ears now. When my hair was longer, I could camouflage them, but I'm all ears now...

Well, if you have big ears - all the better to hear you with, as the wolf said to Little Red Riding Hood.

Very cute, and I love the picture. Kids are so funny sometimes. At least your son didn't get upset about it. I'm glad my son never did either. When I showed him one of his pictures he looked at me and said "I looked like an elephant!"
