Why people don't look when they walk through a parking lot?

This is not the first time. It seems no matter where I am people just step out in front of cars and think the driver will see them, Luckily, for them we do. I can't believe my own eyes. The first thing I remember learning as a child to look both ways before you cross the street. I have been to WalMart and Demoulas Market Basket a local grocery store near me. It's like people want you to hit them. Do they realize a car weighs over four thousand pounds. The last thing I want is to hurt somebody. Never mind having to get my car fixed and my insurance go up. I am not asking a lot. When I stop to let someone walk by people forget to say thank you. I don't get that either. It is just common courtesy. That you appreciate that I stopped for you. Are people in that much of a hurry that they don't care what happens to them. Please, if you cross in front of a vehicle wave or do something. This is an accident waiting to happen. I hope I am never around to see it.

I can relate to that. It has happened so many times with me. I remember a time when I waited for someone to cross the road. She didn't and I thought that she might have changed her mind. Then as soon as I started the vehicle, she jumped in front. It was a narrow escape. Thankfully the brake worked in time. She could have been killed.

It is easy to get in a bad spot especially when people are coming out of the store constantly. Now I avoid parking close and park in the back and get exercise and walk to the front. Thank you for reading and sharing.

@Itsonlyadream Yes, I can totally relate to that. I take all possible safety measures to make sure that I stay safe and so do others on the road. There are quite a few blind spots on our roads and I am extra cautious when I am near them.

These days people feel privileged and selfish.

Pedestrians always have the right of way. The foolish, ungrateful, self centered ... should be in a different category.

@Itsonlyadream - If the police notice those who look at their phones while walking, they are fined.

At least we know how bad it is so we won't be the cause of an accident. Unless over time we forget and become like them. Oh, I hope not.

I have noticed that people do not always look where they are going as they walk through a car park. I particularly worry about children running about especially when the parents are busy on their phones.

I know what you mean. There is a carpark behind Iceland that I sometimes walk through on my way home. I always walk to the side and wait for any cars to go past, but I do see people walking infront of the cars!
