2/13/24 - Update on My Husband

I'm getting so frustrated that I can't speak to my husband. His phone doesn't work properly; and he can't hear me when I do call...other times there is no answer.
I have asked the nurse to order him some Boost or Ensure so that he can get some food and protein in his system. Otherwise he is going to continue to decline and get weaker. They still require 24 hours without a sitter; but hubs continues to try to get out of bed.
Still no luck finding him a rehab facility. Hoping that I will get some good news today.

That is frustrating. Can't you just buy him a basic phone and have someone deliver it? Maybe hubby needs a feeding tube. So sorry though. This must be so stressful and sad.

I am hoping he can get a phone in the rehab center. I'm going to call the nurse tonight about the Ensure.

@LindaOHio Are you able to bring in any food, maybe from his favorite fast food place or deli? Maybe that would encourage him to eat more.

@akalinus His favorite thing is hamburgers. I don't know if he could eat one, even broken up. They are going to try pureed food for him which won't require a lot of chewing and should be easier to swallow.

I was there on Saturday. We fed him about five bites. He didn't want anymore.

@LindaOHio Then, I can see why you'd be frustrated by that. If I had to rely on the hospital phones, I would never be able to talk to anyone. They suck.

@LindaOHio Don't allow him to go to a "bad" facility. I have seen abuse in bad ECE (Early Childhood Education) situations. But toddlers are more resilient than older adults.

They either don't have beds available, they don't take our insurance or they don't want people with behavior problems.

I am sure that is very frustrating for you. They should be giving him Boost or Ensure. Hopefully today is the day you get some good news. Continuing to pray for your hubby and you.

I feel for you Linda. I know how it feels. Ensure really helps. I give dad 4 spoons each day. Abbott labs, your company. Easy to get in your world. Chocolate flavor. Dad asks for it like a small child. Mixing is an issue so I don't think nurses are going to enjoy the chore as much. But it has certainly helped my father.
