Latest Contest (And how it applies to you.)

Does anyone here still enter contests that show off their talents? I know some of you have such great writing skills it seems like there should be contests you can enter. But do we stop that as we grow up?
This painting is one of Amyra’s, my 12 year old niece. It’s Jesus, as a few of you might have guessed. She isn’t done as she still has to finish drawing and painting the animals under the tree, but I thought I’d show you her work so far. She won her age group last year, and this is what she’s submitting this year. She is entering a few other competitions, but this is the one she always excels at in particular.
My teachers in high school used to enter my writing assignments in contests without telling me, but of course, I never won. I always thought it was sad that they were impressed by my work.

Looks quite impressive to me. Did you say she was taking art classes now? I know she is a kid..but to develop her talent.

That is very nice. She is very talented. I can't remember the last time I entered a contest. I use to submit poems and have won a few times but that was many years ago. I don't even write poetry anymore.

I have not entered a contest like that since High School. I was published once in our denominational youth magazine with a poem about Stonehenge. I was bored after being shown the same video about Stonehenge in three different classes, so wrote a poem.

I participated in elocution and singing competitions in school and did win but did very well in debate competition when in college.

What talents? 
Mediocre at everything describes me. Oh well, at least I'm consistent..

That is a lovely picture. I once won an Easter egg in a poetry competition, I was 8 at the time.

It's beautiful. I'm sure when she's finished painting it and submits it, she'll have another winner to her credit.
I submitted Scarred to the Self-Publishing contest several years ago. I did well with it. I didn't win, which would have been a book contract, but the experience was worth it. I haven't entered any since as I don't have the funds for such or had a book ready when the contest took place.
