Life has got so complicated.

I often think how easy things used to be years ago compared to how difficult it is to get things done these days. I had an example of this earlier today. Somebody contacted me from my phone and broadband provider, wanting to update my account. Keeping in mind that they contacted me , he still wanted some security information. One question was` how much was my bill this month?'. I thought the answer to this would be straightforward to I looked on my latest bank statement to give him an answer. He said the answer was wrong. He wanted the amount paid on February 1st , when my bank statement only went up to January 31st. It was a different amount so he could not accept my answer even though I told him what the problem was. We live in a strange world when our accounts can get hacked easily by strangers , but it is a hassle to get anything done on your own account.

It can be challenging trying to work out who is genuine and who is not.

Are you sure he was who he said he was? That sounds suspicious to me. I might have hung up, and called the company myself, using a number I know for sure belongs to the company I use. If they really were who they said they were, they certainly made it inconvenient for you, and that isn’t right either. I called my bank once, answered their security question correctly, and they still would not tell me the current amount in my checking account. I ended up having to talk to a manager just to get that small amount of information.

I was expecting the call and he gave me some information that made me believe he was who he said he was. I did not give him any important information that he could use to scam me. There is so much fraud going on these days that it makes us disbelieve the genuine people Calling our bank these days is a nightmare. The last time we wanted to know something, the woman on the other end did not answer our question and then she put the phone down on us. She took ages to answer the phone and when she did there was a lot of noise in the background which was distracting for us and probably for her too.

I suppose it is good that they are being thorough, but it is a lot of hassle.

I can relate to your situation. I already have finished my work online but my salary didn't arrive so early until now. I hope that i will receive my salary in the future

When I get calls like that and they say am I talking to Nancy, I never say Yes, I say this is she. When they ask for anything else, I ask them what company they are with and why they are calling me. Anytime they ask for my birthday or address, I ask them..don't you have that information? You called ME, you should have that information. I throw back to them anytime I can, ESPECIALLY if they have a strong foreign accent. I told one dude he should be ashamed of himself trying to scam a poor elderly lady, and then hung up. I answer all my calls, because I have a daughter that changes phones like she changes her clothes. LOL But if they want personal information, I hang up and call back or call the company they SAY they are from. Been getting calls from ASPEN dental about an acct I owe...only I do not owe them, and haven't been to see them in over 10 years now. I called Aspen and reported the incident, but they didn't seem worried that someone was using their company name to scam people. Just be careful and NEVER say YES to anyone that calls you...say that is correct, or something other than YES! They can use that word in your voice...And make SURE you are really talking to who they say they are before giving out ANY personal information including your Birthdate.

Thank you for this advice, I will remember not to say `yes' in future. I suppose it is an easy word for them to copy if somebody was pretending to be me. I have heard about instances of artificial intelligence copying the way people talk and then phoning their friends and relatives asking for money. The criminals have become very clever these days. I used to think that the internet and other technologies were a good thing, but these days it seems like it is all going wrong especially when it is used by the wrong people.
