When do you look your worst?

Last night, I had the worst migraine I’ve had in years, and it was so bad I thought something else was wrong. I actually called a friend to take me to the ER, but their phone was understandably off (it was 10:30pm). I took that as a sign that it was probably just an unfortunate mega migraine, and tried to just tough it out. The Lord was merciful because after a couple of migraine pills, and a lot nausea induced consequences (see how I put that in such a non gross way? Lol) I woke up this morning with very manageable pain in my head. So, I walked into the bathroom, and when I looked into the mirror I laughed so hard. My curly hair was standing up, end to end. I’m too vain to post a picture, but it was wilder than I have ever seen. My skin was red and patchy (from holding my head with my hands in various positions during the night), and my eyes looked shell shocked. I have never looked so bad in all my life. When do you look your absolute worst? I mean rock bottom. By the way, the day after a migraine is gone my mood is always joyful, so I’m very happy right now, I promise.

Did your pets at the time notice anything?

@rebelann You goofball. I can understand not remembering something from your twenties, but no way have your pets not given you some incredible human expressions that indicate you freak them out over the years. Or maybe you have a don’t judge me and I won’t judge you kind of thing going on.

I'm not sure, I was in my 20s and didn't think to ask my cat at the time.

@AmbiePam I requested a referral from my doctor to the pain clinic for an injection in my back, so hoping I can get that soon.

Sorry you went through all that pain last night! I get migraine-like headaches (which is painful enough for me) but I know folks who have "real" migraines which can be truly debilitating. Glad you're doing way better today! I think I look my absolute worst when I'm sick - so sick that I can't do anything at all.

I’m one of those people who look terrible when they’re sick, and just as terrible when they cry. No delicate flower appearance for me; it’s all bad.

@much2say That must be very unusual to have each eye looking different.

@AmbiePam My face gets this pale, sickly color. And I can totally tell by my eyes . . . I have monolids, and when I get sick (or super tired), one eye becomes double lidded.

I am so sorry, I know how painful a mega migraine is. I remember that I looked my absolute worst the day I had kidney stone pain. It was so horrible that I was crawling on the floor because I could not even stand up. I looked horrible, pale, with dark circles under my eyes.

I heard the pain from kidney stones can be just as bad as giving birth. I don’t think people really understand how wretched they can be.

@AmbiePam - It was horrible, it happened so suddenly, as soon as my husband came upstairs he brought me to the ER.

Oh, bless your heart. I've had lots of migraines, but only a few that sent me to the ER. So thankful you feel some better tonight. I think I probably looked my worse when I was going through chemo and had no hair. And no makeup, lol.

@AmbiePam When my hair started coming out in handfuls, I asked Dale to shave my head. I cried the whole time. I'm thankful it's still coming back in and not quite as wiry and frizzy as it was a month ago. I've been wearing my wigs in public, but I actually got my real hair looking almost okay and wore it to a doctor's office recently. No one recoiled in horror.

I am sorry that you had such a terrible migraine headache. I pray it is a long time before you have another. My brother used to get them when he was a teenager but as he got older, he seemingly has outgrown them. I had one in my life and pray I never get another. I feel for those like you, who have to deal with them. The worse I looked, probably when I used to drink and woke up the day after a night of drinking. Thankfully I stopped drinking 35 years ago, so those memories are pretty much faded nowadays. Had to laugh at your hair description. I never know what to expect mine to look like when I wake up.

@AmbiePam I tell Mike my hair is like the Lord's mercies and compassion, its new every morning. "It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness" Lamentations 3:22-23

No, you’re the type that looks heroic when those under eye circles appear; that strong lady everyone wonders how she does it, but who still looks dignified no matter how tired she is.

Probably early in the morning .you must have been a sight. Isn't is possible to take the meds to sort of ward them off before they get so bad? It must be miserable.

The preventative meds don’t seem to work (one made the migraines ten times worse), and there was one that if you took right at the start of one it got rid of it before it got bad about 50% of the time. Unfortunately, insurance won’t pay for it. At $100 a pill, I don’t even harbor any resentment for that. My doctor gave me samples, but eventually, even a nice doctor quits giving samples. I think the acupuncture and cupping has not only helped my back, but my migraines too. Honestly, snowy, I think this migraine was caused by a stressful incident, and nothing was going to keep it from coming on.

In my head, you are regal like Helen Mirren, Ellen Burstyn, or the late Gena Rowlands. No matter their age, they always have/had an elegance that was noticed.

Yep, when I first wake up, I'm a mess. My hair looks like a it got caught in a windstorm. Something like that photo. I would be a morning person if morning started around 1PM.

Maybe on a day Eli or your hubby made you question your life choices? I’ve told my dad he made me question why I chose to be an obedient child when he purposefully drives me up the wall. He always thinks that’s funny for some reason.

I'm so sorry that you had such a bad migraine but glad that you feel better today even though the image in the mirror was shocking. I always look my worst when I first get up in the morning. My hair is always a mess and my eyes are only half open until I have my coffee.
