That sounds ominous.

Just read a life story of someone and, for some reason, the ending sounded really ominous. I'll change the details but the ending was thus:- "John Smith died at his home in Midsomer, Greenshire, on December 8, 2021, at the age of 83. He was surrounded by his wife Debra and three children." The "surrounded by" makes it sound more like they attacked him and killed him. It might be just me but does that sound menacing to anyone else?

I had to do a double take, my first understanding was quite ghoulish, like some vultures waiting for an expected feast. Hopefully we were meant to infer something else

I often see this written in obituaries and they use exactly the same word translated in other languages.
