They transferred my husband to rehab at 5:30 yesterday. At 8:30 I called him. He talked non-stop for 5 minutes; and I didn't understand a word he said.
The rehab facility called me at 11 pm to tell me that they found him on the floor. He had gotten out of bed and fallen. He wasn't hurt as far as I know. They are going to have to keep him in bed. That's what the sitter was for at the hospital. I hope they don't say that he can't stay.
Thank you for your continued prayers, thoughts and friendship.

I hope he will be well enough to stay there if it will help him. I know they have ways and methods of evaluating the patients, so I am sure they will be doing that. Glad he didn't break any bones or hit his head when he fell down.

He needs to not get up by himself or they will make him leave.

Unfortunately, yes, if he gets up and falls repeatedly he is a hazard. With his speech the way it is if he did want to make his wishes known to get up, he may not be able to do that. I’m sure it’s a huge concern for you.

@LindaOHio I hope he arrives to call someone if he needs to get up. I have the feeling it's hard for him to speak.

Yes, I don't want them to make him leave. He must get someone if he wants to get up.

When my dear departed auntie was in a care home, she fell out of bed, too. They placed a foam rubber mat on the floor in case it happened again. I joked with her that it was supposed to make her bounce back into bed.

If he continues to do that, they may make him leave.

So how will he get stronger so he is not falling. Is that why he is having physical therapy? Even though you could not understand him, did his five minute chat sound happy or pleased in the tone of voice?

Yes, the PT is to strengthen him again. It was hard to discern his mood because he sounds like a drunk person when he's like that.

We are going to go see him this morning. I can only visit when his cousin is willing to take me. I have no idea how long he will be in rehab.

Is the reason you couldn't understand what he was saying on the phone due to medications he is taking?

No. Toward evening the delirium or dementia gets worse.

Glad he got moved. Hope he is ok. They will put very thick mats beside the bed to help protect him. That's what they had to do for my dad.

They don't have sitters in rehab. That's what he had in the hospital. They sat and watched him 24/7.

He's not supposed to get out of bed without assistance. That's why they had people watching him in the hospital.

Glad to hear he is in rehab now but sorry to hear that tried to get out of bed and fell. Hope they will allow him to stay here.

That's good that they transferred him to one...but sorry about how it is going. The falling is scary...reminds me of my grandfather. He wouldn't stay in bed and was falling often. Hopefully they won't say that!

He was really lucky that he did not injure himself.
He must have been restless from the move, and who can blame him for feeling that way?
Once he gets his bearings, he will hopefully shed that hospital dilrium and you will see the man that you know.
They will be patient with him, and work with him to help bring him around, they see that on most admissions, I'm sure.

Today I will see how clean the place is and what the staff is like.

I guess it happens often with older patients. I'm hoping it will improve in rehab. If it's dementia, then I don't know what will happen.

I'm glad he didn't get hurt from the falling. Hope he can stay at the rehab.
