Not sure how today is going to be, but I had a good day yesterday. I went to my favorite yard sale place and while I was there bought a tested (turned off and on) flat screen for 5.00. It did not come with a remote or manual, but should be easy enough to obtain. I had a TV in the bedroom but when the guys were picking up metal I had them take it. I bought it in 2005 and had a flat screen front but had like a CRT back. The thing weighed a ton and was huge. I had them take it because it wasn't hooked up to anything and always in the way. I will probably get this one wall mounted.

@sallypup Smart TVs have their own channels. Friend has a Roku I think, but nothing else.

I bought a couple of them when I lived in NOVA. I bought my current flat screen..about 2-3 years ago. I am not sure how long it is going to last..at least if it breaks, I have a replacement now.

@snowy22315 If I bought a TV I would then have to buy a subscription. Not worth my time.

I know..I know some people who have some for sale, but they wanted 50 a piece. I don't know whether remotes were included or not.

@snowy22315 You can surely find a remote that works with that one.

That is an exceptional find! Good thing I don't live close to that business because I'd be a frequent flyer!
There is a place that is an hour drive from me that I love. I have found some great buys. The owner doesn't price things way high. As she said to me that they are used and donated and prices them not to insult the buyer.

Well this is. church related.. I think money raised goes to support the church and whatever projects they have going on. Sometimes they donate things instead of selling them as well.

Yeah, as long as it works I will be happy. I think they originally had this priced at 15 and nobody bought it.

@snowy22315 Not too many people are buying bread makers anymore. I bought a replacement one at the local thrift shop for $10 and got an additional $4 off because it was a first of the month Saturday sale. I only needed to get a recipe/instruction manual for it and got that for $5 so I lucked out. It works beautifully and I'm going to make a loaf of bread for Saturday for a gentleman friend of mine who doesn't eat food with refined sugar in it. If I remember right I have some honey in the cupboard so it'll work perfectly.
There are a LOT of things from years ago that are selling for a really reduced price. Vacuum cleaners are going very cheaply right now...most people are using tile or wood floors now and are eliminating carpet from their homes.
As for a remote for your TV, a universal remote shouldn't be hard to find. And depending if you buy it new or from a yard sale or a thrift shop the instructions for it shouldn't be too hard to get either. I bought a universal remote from a thrift shop and it didn't have the instructions so I went online and it was a piece of cake to get it to work with my TV with the instructions I got via the computer. Just make sure that it uses the common batteries, some of the batteries can not only be hard to find but also very expensive too. Also, if you have cable, the cable remote might work with your new TV. There's no telling. Just be careful when getting the remote for the TV.

Wow can't beat $5 for a flat screen. You can probably get a remote on Amazon for cheap.

@snowy22315 'shy of' in combination with time is new to me. Thanks for enlarging my idiomatic vocabulary! I'm sure that I've never encountered the expression before in the many decades I've known English as a foreign language.
The literal translation of the German expression is, "It's 'short before' 19 o'clock."

I know right?? They sell things for absurdly low prices..it is like a yard sale. I have bought a breadmaker there and a toaster both for 5.00 and they worked.
