National Retro Day

There are many National Day celebrations today but the one that most caught my attention was National Retro Day. A time back before there were cell phones and internet. Back when people talked face to face more and not text to text, a time when families had dinner at home around the table, talking about their day and children played games that didn't require the internet. Without cell phones, internet, or social media, people spent more time focused on each other when spending time together. All those moments were recorded in our memories for us to remember and look back on and not recorded on a device and posted on social media for the whole world to see. In a lot of ways they were more simpler times and the good old days as some people refer to those years. I am glad I grew up in that time. I have so many memories great memories of the days gone by. What are some things you did as a kid that kids today would never understand? Like watching black and white floor model TVs, fighting over who was going to change the channel, if you missed your favorite TV show you were out of luck until the summer when it repeated if you even seen it then. There are many memories that go back way beyond those days. Please share your retro memories I would love to hear them.

I especially remember the joy my mother had on getting her first washing machine. It saved so much back-breaking work. And an electric fridge rather than one that ran on kerosine and was likely to stop working at any time.

@Happy2BeMe I'm glad my mother lived long enough to enjoy the benefits of some of them.

Those were exciting times. They worked hard before all of those inventions.

Yeah--I remember loving summer because I could play outside with my friends until 8 p.m. and it wouldn't be dark out--tag, hide n seek, kickball, whatever.

Those were the simpler days and so much fun. Sad that kids dont get to really experience those things these days.

I think one of the big things kids these days are missing out on is being able to play outdoors with their friends in the neighborhood, riding their bikes around the block, and just being free to be kids.

I agree. It is sad that kids don't get to experience those things these days. Some kids don't even know who their neighbours are.

I miss the old days. We went out with friends, often walking, no phones, often having a sandwich sitting on a bench in the park, but those were wonderful moments spent laughing and enjoying life.

I miss those days too. Even talking on the phone instead of texting feels like you are closer to the person

That is so true. Now people won't even answer the phone if you call. They want you to text them.
