Well, that was a waste of an hour.

George and I just got back from the doctor's office. Turns out that the VA canceled his appoitment because reasons. And, no one thought to inform us. So, I wasted around fourty dollars (nearly twenty each way) to wonder in a circle, and be told his appoitment was canceled by his provider. We have a doctor's appoitment with his new primary at the end of April, and, hopefully they'll get their shiit together by then.

Sorry you had to go through all that to find out it was canceled. Too bad you cannot file a complaint with the VA and get reimbursed for your Uber money, Practically nothing in life is fair, I hope you all have a relaxing evening,

I can, but they likely would deny it. If they denied claims for ambulances and medical transports. Why would they return less than 40 bucks?

@RasmaSandra Daytona does have a service that does kind of cover this. However, you have to go ex ammount of times a month, it's not that relyable, and if you cancel ex ammount of times they'll kick you off. You have to reserve twenty-four hours in advance and be at your location for at least one hour. I used it on and off for a few years. However, I found it wasn't worth the hassle. And, it's still a cash-only system so I'd run out of cash, quick. while it's cheeper than Uber, I can put Uber on a credit card.

@kaylachan a question came to mind because I have been told I could get medical transport or social security recipient transport etc. For me, I don't go to doctors and I have no place really to go to take a transport so I don't use it. Would it be possible for you and George to get this kind of transport for his appointments so you don't have to always pay for Uber?

I'm sorry they canceled his appointment without telling you. Lots of wasted time. I hope the next appointment goes better.

I completely agree. I am glad it got us out of the house, but I wish I'd known.

That's horrible! I hate when things like that happen. I got worried yesterday when my husband checked in. His doctor's nurse saw him and asked receptionist, "Is that my patient?" She said, "yes." Then the nurse comes over and fusses at my husband because he hung up on her when she called him. He told her that he didn't get a phone call from her. She insisted and went on and on about it. I think it was actually a joke. But not funny!!

@kaylachan I agree. They should give us the courtesy of 48 hour notice unless emergency with another patient which cannot be controlled.

@kareng I know. Doctor's offices are real good with the reminder calls. But, heaven forbid you have to cancel, or they cancel on you.

We have a minimum 45 minute drive to most appointments. The cardiac surgeon/cardiac center is just over 2 hours (if the roads are good). Tuesdays checkin is 1 PM. We’ll be there until Thursday or Friday….i booked a motel room.

George doesn't like being far from home. So he won't go to lake nona. So I'm fighting for community care.

@kaylachan I’m fortunate I qualify for 4 hours respite 3 x a week. We are only using one afternoon at the moment, but I am prepared to accept more hours as time progresses.

Kayla, no doubt you know way more than I do about what is available to you and George there. You should be able to get rides to the doctor's appointments, and back, paid for by them. Plus if you have to pay and they failed to provide a ride, you can get reimbursed. This is through Medicare and Medicaid.

That works for me, sure. Not for George and visa versa. At least until he turns 65 and qualifies for those benifits. He's only 63.

@kaylachan Oh, I thought he was 65, that does make a difference. I wish there was something for him, as well, to provide rides. I would be upset as well, to have made the trip and paid the money out for nothing.

Yep, that sounds like the VA. What you need to do is file a travel claim with the VA (which you should be able to do online) for reimbursement of the money.

I'll think about it. The va really hasn't been to friendly when it comes to travel expenices here. Hell, they denied the claims for the ambulance and medical transports between hospitals. Somehow I doubt they'll refund me the urbr rides.
