To Keep Or Kick

Do you have a habit that you don't mind keeping , or a habit that you would dearly love to get rid of? The saying : " Old habits die hard"- is certainly true. It can be difficult to stop doing something that we have been doing for a long time. The habit l have which has stuck with me for over 2 decades is getting out of bed at 5 a.m every morning. Whether it is the weekend, a holiday, good weather, bad weather, going somewhere or not - l am up just before 5 a.m. I think it all began when my son started Primary school. He was placed in the early morning shift, which meant l had to be up early to help him get ready. So do you have an old habit you would want to keep or kick? Pixabay image

Not being able to get to sleep until after midnight. It has been decades since I have been able to get to bed at a decent hour. It goes back to when I first got sick.

@Kandae11 No. I usually wake up at 5am, although if I take sleep medicine I can sleep until 6:30am. I just don’t like taking more medicine, even if I don’t get to bed until 2am (like last night).

So then you are allowed to sleep late. Do you?

Same as you, I always get out of bed at 5 a.m. every morning, I prepare breakfast and I sit with my husband to enjoy a quiet half hour in the morning. I keep this habit that I like.

@Kandae11 Absolutely true, at 8 in the morning my house is already cleaned and I am ready to do whatever I like to do.

One could also get much more done during the day when there is an early start.

That can be a hard one to break. I've adjusted my sleep schedule to my husband's. Which isn't easy because he's had some random sleeping hours lately.

I'm up early most mornings, a habit started when I worked the third shift. I like being up early.

@Kandae11 Yes, I do. No, it doesn't. It feels like I've wasted half a day when I get up late. I had the laundry in the washer shortly after three this morning.

Wish oh wish I could be at 5!!! That is pure torture. I'd have to lay there for another 4 hours hours before I can even budge to get up.

@Kandae11 Time to find a nice young mister, but you're used to waking up at 5, so you will probably still get up at 5

@db20747 You may be right. A young one might be problems, elderly other problems. Maybe l should remain single

I can 't wait to get out of bed. Sometimes l wake up at 3 a.m and lie in bed thinking or writing till 5 a.m. One reason could be because l have slept alone for most of my life.

I too wake up at 5 AM. On weekends and holidays, I would get up and them get back to sleep for a while if I have nothing else to do. Else that's my most productive time and I don't want to waste it. This is one old habit that I would never like to give up.

I would love to sleep through the night if I could. I wake up every 2-3 hours every night - and this has been going on for over a decade. And me too - I can't sleep past 5 it seems - my body won't let me.

Sometimes the dogs barking will disturb my sleep. I usually wake up at least twice during the night.

That's a great question. I think my habits change as life goes on, I would say brushing teeth and washing face before going bed are old habits and part of my routine.

I have broke most of my habits. I used to eat meals at the same time every day. Now I fix meals when we get hungry . Early or late we do not care.

I am gradually kicking the getting-up-early habit. I used to be up around 6 am but I can go a bit longer than that nowadays.

December and January the nights are chilly - by my standards. Those mornings l can be tempted to stay in bed until 6 a.m.

I don't think I would like that habit. I am a night owl and barely can think clearly before 9:30 am! The habit I would love to break is procrastinating. I have been doing it for SO many years that I have gotten quite good at it...unfortunately!

When you get very good at something you don't really want to break it. A lot of people go to bed late and sleep late. I am in bed from 8 oclock but l read, watch tv or am doing something on the internet until l feel sleepy. If any member of my household finds that l am still sleeping at 9.30 a.m there will be panic..
