Storms of Last Night

After the severe storms last night I thought Oklahoma got away without a lot of damage. Unfortunately, this morning I discovered four tornadoes touched down last night. Where I live it thundered and the rain poured down, but we were just under a tornado watch, and didn’t even get the tennis ball sized hail like neighboring counties. How did your area fare last night? Anyone actually have a nice, peaceful weather evening? Hopefully, those not in the United States aren’t experiencing any traumatic weather. One of the reasons I strongly dislike spring and summer are the myriad of tornadoes we have in tornado alley.

It must be hard living in tornado alley. No bad weather last night, but the snow arrives this morning along with high winds gusting to 50 mph. The winter storm, named Cora, will go through tomorrow afternoon and give us a foot of snow. Yes, I'm happy with the snow and totals. I'm not happy about the high winds. I'm glad you're safe and didn't get the damage other counties got.

@AmbiePam Yes, I do. It's raining. This will turn to snow as the temperature drops.

Yikes, that has to be a really scary area to live in, no wonder the anicient native americans moved around so much, they were really smart.

@rebelann My dad’s friends live in the Lubbock area, and they get so many warnings. They have a large family, but two have lost their homes from tornadoes.

If you don’t want tornadoes, don’t live in Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas, Kansas, or Arkansas. Other states get them too, of course, but those are the states with the highest rate of tornadoes.

I've lived in this end of TX since 1959 and have only heard of 1 tornado warning but it was for an area that at the time was not yet a part of my city.

We are supposed to have thunder storms tonight and early tomorrow. I pray it is not severe.

We didn't have any rain. But we are supposed to tonight. I'm not sure when it was, but a part of North Carolina had a earthquake.

I really wouldn't like being in a tornado-prone zone. It must be quite terrifying at times.

@JudyEv He had a good attitude though. He had to kind of maneuver on foot to get out of his neighborhood due to the debris and downed power lines. When I found him to pick him up and take him to my apartment, he opened my car door, smiled, and said, “Just call me Job!”

Some nearby towns had huge hail, but we just had tiny hail and wind and rain, I am thankful, but hate it for the ones that had so much damage. I know if they predict hail, I try very hard to be home with my car in the garage. I also know many don't have a garage to park in, so they have to worry about their cars...about a week ago, one town here in Illinois had such huge hailstones that they broke out car windows and house windows! Hail is mean!

I agree. Three years ago the hail was so bad it totaled my car at my apartment, and my stepmom’s at her house. The only reason why my dad’s was okay was because his truck was in the garage.

@AmbiePam My oldest son has to travel for work two days a week. He got caught too far from home about a month ago and hail was coming, he didn't want his car ruined. He snuck into a car wash and sat there until it was over and avoided damage this time. I don't blame him a bit. He said several other people had the same idea!

Tornadoes are so scary. It rained last night but no big bad weather. It will probably be raining tonight and Weds too. I think I would hate the weather in Oklahoma.

I am sorry, we also had a severe storm, we did not have damages, but several boats sunk in the lake and several old beautiful trees have been uprooted.

Tornadoes scare the heck out of me and thankfully we rarely get those warnings. We have lots of rain today with thunderstorms. I'm just hoping it doesn't get too bad. You're lucky you escaped any tornadoes but even pouring rain and thunderstorms can be dangerous.

I thought about you, and our niece and fiancé as they are in Oklahoma. I am thankful you didn't get the terrible storms. I haven't heard from our niece yet, but it takes her a little while to answer our texts. They will be leaving Ok. around June and move on to perhaps to Kentucky. He works as a main supervisor for a solar plant company. They go and from start to finish set up solar fields all over the country. So far, they have lived/worked in Virginia, North Carolina, Florida, Alabama, Illinois and Oklahoma. Most of the jobs keep them for about a year to a year and half, some jobs were smaller, and they only stayed for about 6 months. I admire them for living that type of life, but I can tell you it isn't for me.

I am glad it wasn't worse. The hurricane season begins in June and runs through to November. Thankfully here in Jamaica the last serious storm we had was hurricane Sandy in 2012.

We did well last night. Today, however, is another story. The sun is out right now, which is warming the atmosphere as the next round of storms approach. Ah, spring in the Ohio Valley. There was a tornado in Evansville, Indiana, and an EF-1 about 50 miles to our southeast. Nothing here in Louisville thus far, thank God.

I am sorry that you had such a frightening night of storms. We are getting unlike spring weather. A return to cold winds and temperatures was the way our day began and still is. We are expecting an accumulation of snow also, not springlike weather at all.
