4/5/24 - Update on My Husband

My husband said that he put his call light on at 1 pm; and no one came in to see what he wanted until 6 pm. I will be calling the head honcho about this. I spoke with Admissions at the new rehab facility. She said she has not received the Referral from the current facility. She said for their Social Worker to call her. I will get in touch with the Social Worker this morning. I am supposed to go visit my husband tonight; but that's all up in the air right now. I'll know more this morning. I did not receive a call with a quote as promised from the step/railing people. They are horrible with follow-up. I will give them until Monday to call. Report them to the Ohio Department of Aging. That can be anonymous. Besides, they need to be reported, that is simply shameful!

@LeaPea2417 I have reached a point in life that I hold people accountable for their actions. In plain words, they need to do their job or just close up the place.

I wondered if there was a governing body that she could raise her concerns to. That is neglect, plain and simple. I also question if it is as a result of her wanting to place him in another facility, not that anyone can blame her for that choice.

@AmbiePam I hate it when people are ignored and neglected. It’s no way to run any type of business, let alone a health care facility!!

That social worker wants to keep your hubby in her facility so maybe a different avenue of pursuit would be a better bet. Did his doctor recommend this place?

Once in one it's hard to get out, I tried when I was in but the doctor who did my emergency appendectomy changed my insurance and didn't tell me so I was stuck.

That is terrible leaving a call light like that for hours and hours on end. Where is their professionalism? Is there a governing body over places like this that you can submit a formal complaint to? I hope that you hear back about the stairs and railing and that you will be able to visit him. I wonder if they choose to ignore his call bell based on the fact that you are trying to get him out of there, and that isn't being done either. Both instances need to be reported, the call bell is elderly abuse/neglect, that is a VERY serious accusation.

@LindaOHio I am sure that you will get the wheels in motion for better care for him and other residents as well as a response to the social worker's referral. She is stalling his paperwork.

I hope they get the referral and call today so he can be transferred. That's horrible that he had to wait hours for a nurse to answer his call button.

They are charging big bucks for a semi-private room. He should be treated like a king.

Oh wow! That is uncalled for!! I would keep a list going and after 3 put in a report with the State about the poor service and care at that facility! I hope the step/railing people get back with you. Seems like everyone is bad these days with follow ups!

OH I thought you had that project underway. I would be calling others in the meantime. It is always good to get multiple quotes. Have a good one! IS that rehab place seriously under staffed?

I remember that happened at my dad's rehab too. Actually I turned on the light, no one came, and then I would go looking for anyone out there - they'd tell me everyone was busy. They don't hop to it like a hospital would. I saw your comment on your other post - I'm so sorry tonight is not happening. Darn those step/railing people too. Argh!!!

@LindaOHio I know, I know. I don't know why they stall things in rehabs (seems like this is common everywhere). It's maddening. But do keep trying . . . keep them on their toes!!!

Seems like someone is falling down on the job not getting the referral to the new rehab place. I never understand why it takes numerous calls to get anything done these days. Hope you can get it sorted out and that your husband can get transferred and that you hear from the railing company.

Sorry you are going through all this hassle. I remember when my mom was in rehab and we had the same problem. Understaffed, and slacker attendants = no help for patients who need assistance! I hope your husband can go home soon to receive the proper care he needs to recover.
